Related to #5. This bounded owner-authorized increment adds opt-in Composer metadata normalization beyond the original extraction scope; it does not close#1/#5. It is independent of the separate guard work. Main’s merged #63 and v0.7.0 release #84 are retained in branch ancestry, with no changes to their implementation in this PR’s diff.
normalize-composer checks root composer.json in memory by default. Only explicit --apply writes that manifest. PHP check/fix, Composer scripts and Actions retain their behavior. The normalizer never maintains locks/dependencies, changes allow-plugins, constructs a Composer application/plugin manager/installer, executes Composer script commands or discovers an additional target autoload/config after CLI bootstrap. Initially stale locks prevent writes; an incompatible hash after application returns 1 without editing the lock.
The adapter snapshots policy separately from upstream’s mutable decoded JSON. It restores first-match plugin/install maps exactly and literal dependency values. If package identities change or case-colliding names exist, the original section keys/values/order are retained, including suggest descriptions. Native Composer loader comparisons cover extension and ordinary-package collisions in both orders. Repository priority, script/autoload lists, installer paths, patch order, formatting, idempotence and no-write inventories are tested.
This is not full upstream CLI equivalence: default check rather than default write; no lock-update/skip-lock switch; root filenames with symlink rejection; sniffed formatting without plugin indentation overrides; diagnostic rather than unified diff; documented exit statuses.
The official standalone json-normalizer 4.11.0 library supplies normalization; Composer 2.10.3 supplies the local schema/native hash API. The graph adds 23 packages (eight normalization/semver, fifteen Composer APIs), with existing psr/log and symfony/filesystem promoted to runtime. No new Composer plugin or allowlist change. The smaller normalizer/semver/copied-schema alternative lacks the reviewed standalone native lock-hash API, hence the documented full Composer library cost. React Promise function includes and Symfony polyfill bootstraps execute with ordinary tool autoload; normal consumer installation intentionally uses the shared consumer/tool autoloader, including registered autoload files. The poison-autoload fixture proves only the separate-installation boundary. No sandbox/namespace isolation is claimed. The installed local schema contains internal refs only; no runtime schema download/fallback.
Owner-requested caret correction
Only the four requirements introduced by this feature now use caret:

ergebnis/json-normalizer: ^4.11.0
ergebnis/json-printer: ^3.9.1
These admit compatible minor/patch releases below the next major. The current minima/locked versions are verified; unreleased admitted versions are not claimed as executed. Targeted Composer resolution with --minimal-changes --no-install --no-plugins --no-scripts returned no package changes: only content-hash changed, with all locked versions/metadata identical. Native Semver checks verified each minimum and next-minor admission plus next-major exclusion. Strict validate passed; no concrete range/API incompatibility identified.
The pre-existing main constraints for container/phpstan/rector are deliberately unchanged here; their separate audit belongs to the parent task. No Actions/SHA pins are changed.
Remote/manual edits were checked before publication. Main's merged #63 and release #84 remain in ancestry; normal signed commits/pushes were used. The owner marked this PR ready at 17:16:06 UTC; that manual state is preserved. No approval, PR merge or auto-merge was performed.
Quality: PHP 8.3/8.4/8.5 each passed 289 tests / 2,352 assertions, no skips, full Composer check/platform/strict validation and syntax/ECS; 33 isolated Twig checks also passed per runtime.
PR Standards, applicable changelog checks and CodeQL passed. Release/Dependabot-only branches were skipped as expected. Optional-analysis success follows its existing report policy, not a zero-findings claim.
Full local composer check: 289 tests / 2,314 assertions, six explicit macOS-environment skips (five Linux process-group cases, one unavailable DOM-free runtime); syntax/ECS passed for 82 PHP files. Capacity preflight passed and heavy checks ran serially without killing processes or raising limits.
Independent read-only pre-push review found no remaining findings on this exact base/head range. Codex code and security reviews both completed on this SHA with no findings or unresolved findings (summary comment 6475336301).
CodeRabbit finding and remaining review gate
After confirmed capacity availability, one supported full-review request completed on 7d98ba5407eaa3ea8fac25e9fde54ef40de74819 (review 5687334747). Its Major privacy finding was independently reproduced: upstream NotJson embeds the rejected metadata bytes, which the general exception handler printed. Commit 6f44bea adds a dedicated fixed diagnostic/status 2 before the general handler. The regression covers malformed manifest and lock across check, apply and verbose apply; neither channel exposes rejected input and no file changes. Focused suite: 8 tests / 177 assertions. CodeRabbit confirmed the fix and resolved thread PRRT_kwDOVSkaH86xQMD3.
The new automatic review of 6f44bea was rate limited, not reviewed: CodeRabbit's comment updated at 18:09:55 UTC said 42 minutes, yielding the next reported window 18:51:55 UTC. neutral, the old completed review and the resolved thread are not a current-head full review or approval. No further manual review request was sent after the one authorized request; no credentials, plan, limits or review configuration changed.
CodeRabbit also retains two scope warnings based on issue #1's historical extraction scope. This is the separate owner-authorized normalization increment described above, related to #5; neither issue is closed or rewritten. Those bot warnings and the fresh-head review gate are explicitly outstanding. No separate issue was created.
README/help, root/RST contracts and an added/minor changelog fragment are included. Source, target metadata and consumer rollout remain opt-in.
Added an opt-in normalize-composer command to check Composer metadata without making changes, or apply normalization explicitly to composer.json.
The command preserves dependency constraints and significant metadata ordering, leaves lock files unchanged, and reports when a lock file’s hash is stale.
Documentation
Added guidance on command options, behavior, and safety boundaries.
This change adds an opt-in normalize-composer command. It checks Composer metadata without writing by default. With --apply, it writes only composer.json, preserves specified values and formatting, and reports lock freshness.
Changes: Composer metadata normalization

Summary
Normalization and preservation rules composer.json, src/Composer/MetadataNormalizer.php, src/ServiceProvider/StandardsServiceProvider.php, docs/composer-normalization.rst, tests/Integration/NormalizeComposerTest.php
The normalizer uses the local Composer schema and JSON libraries. It restores dependency values and selected policy ordering, and retains the source formatting. Integration tests cover preserved values and aliases.
The registered command resolves a project directory and invokes the runner. The runner checks lock freshness, supports read-only checks, and writes only the manifest when --apply is enabled. Tests and documentation cover command outcomes, invalid inputs, and lock handling.

Explanation
Issue [#1] requires Composer metadata normalization to remain outside the extraction runtime and says to coordinate with its one writer rather than copy it. This PR adds NormalizeComposerCommand, NormalizationRunner, service wiring, and integration tests to the runtime. The hosted tests support the implementation, but they do not satisfy the conflicting scope requirement.
Resolution
Remove the Composer normalization command, runtime wiring, and related tests from this [#1]-scoped change, or obtain a separate directly linked authorization that changes the normalization ownership and scope.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The Composer normalization implementation is outside the scope defined by [#1]. The issue explicitly excludes Composer metadata normalization from this runtime. The added command, runner, dependency graph, documentation, and tests all implement that excluded feature.
Resolution
Move the normalization feature to its authorized owner and separate pull request. Keep this pull request limited to the extraction runtime and its stated acceptance criteria.

A rabbit checks the JSON in the light, Then leaves the manifest untouched by default. With --apply, it writes just one file, While lock hashes report their state. Constraints keep their familiar shape, And tidy keys rest in their place.

composer-metadata-normalization.md — added, minor
Add opt-in `normalize-composer` metadata checking and explicit `--apply`, using the composer-normalize library while retaining literal dependency constraints and significant ordering. Keep PHP check/fix unchanged; never execute Composer scripts/plugins or update locks, and report stale hashes before/after explicit manifest writes. Declare the added runtime libraries with compatible caret constraints while retaining the verified locked package versions. Keep rejected metadata contents out of invalid-JSON diagnostics, including verbose output.
Please review current HEAD beba5ad, especially first-match plugin/install policy, dependency alias/collision preservation and no-write/lock boundaries. Keep the PR draft; do not apply changes or merge.
