Refs #806

EC2/compute recs differing only by platform or tenancy now get distinct cell keys (read verbatim from details, same source as samePurchaseVariantIdentity; suffix added only when either is set, after the AZ suffix). The purchase modal variant filter already compared platform and tenancy; existing tests cover refusing a different platform/tenancy and still pass.

Note (R8): every EC2 cellKey with platform/tenancy changes. expandedCells is an in-memory Set, so expanded cells reset once on load; accepted.

Tests: platform-only, tenancy-only differences are distinct cells; same pair groups together; non-EC2 and no-details EC2 keys unchanged. tsc, lint, build, jest (3218 passed) green locally. Must land before PR-E.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • EC2 recommendations with different platform or tenancy details now appear in separate cells, making it easier to distinguish options.
    • Recommendations with the same platform and tenancy remain grouped together, even when other terms or copied details differ. Non-EC2 recommendations and EC2 recommendations without platform or tenancy details retain their existing grouping.

Walkthrough

EC2 and Compute recommendation cell keys now include platform and tenancy values when either is present. Tests cover grouping differences, unchanged grouping for term-only differences, and existing key forms.

Compute identity and grouping
frontend/src/recommendations.ts, frontend/src/__tests__/recommendations.test.ts
computeIdentity extracts string platform and tenancy values from valid details objects for EC2 and Compute recommendations. cellKey adds these values when either is present. Tests cover grouping differences and existing key behavior for other cases.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 4628b

In the edge case where otherwise matching EC2 recommendations differ only by missing versus empty tenancy, they share a cell but one purchase variant is excluded. The issue is narrow; merging carries bounded risk, though the identity handling should be aligned.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve missing fields in the cell identity.

If two EC2 recommendations have platform: 'Linux/UNIX' and their tenancy values are missing and '', computeIdentity gives both the same key. samePurchaseVariantIdentity treats those tenancy values as different. The recommendations therefore share a cell even though the purchase-variant filter rejects one of them. Preserve the missing-versus-empty distinction in the key, or make both identity checks use the same normalization.

Merge-gate verdict (independent review, claude-opus-5-5): APPROVE at 4628b53

Review

  • Key format: cellKey appends |platform|tenancy after the optional AZ suffix, only when either is set; same ordering and same "pair together when non-zero" rule as backend recommendationID (internal/scheduler/scheduler.go:1108-1119 on main, from fix(purchase): carry EC2 platform and tenancy in rec ID, identity key and idempotency key (#806) #817).
  • Field source: reads details.platform / details.tenancy verbatim (no trim/case folding), the same JSON names as ComputeIdentity (internal/config/recommendation_identity.go:33-34). Non-string values map to '' (backend errors on those; not reachable from valid rows). Restricted to service ec2/compute; backend is service-agnostic but only ComputeDetails carries those keys, so the identity is the same in practice.
  • cellKey consumers: groupRecsByCell, loadedCellVariants, the one-variant-per-cell radio deselect, SP grouping, expandedCells. None is persisted (expandedCells is an in-memory Set; localStorage holds only bulk-purchase capacity, column visibility and filters), so no stored state is orphaned. cellKey is never compared with a backend rec ID. Radio deselect now treats different platform/tenancy as separate cells, which is the intended behaviour.
  • samePurchaseVariantIdentity already compares platform, tenancy, scope, availability_zone for ec2/compute; existing purchase-modal-submit.test.ts:493-498 refuse a different platform/tenancy for ec2 and compute. No new modal test needed.
  • No mutation sweep (frontend grouping change, per policy).

Local evidence (git archive of the head, macOS)

  • tsc --noEmit 0, npm run lint 0, npm run build 0, jest --maxWorkers=2: 102/102 suites, 3218 passed, 1 skipped.
  • Fails-before: with the parent's recommendations.ts and the new tests, the platform/tenancy test fails and the unchanged-key test passes (as expected).

CI: all checks green at the head (Build frontend, E2E, Playwright Chromium, pre-commit, CI Success); mergeStateStatus CLEAN; not behind main. Labels mirror #806; body says Refs #806.
