Next parity mega PR after #2522. Work lands here incrementally; each merge is gated (race tests on touched packages, internal/app, lint-changed) before push.

So far

  • feat: parity batch (App Service slots, Cloud Datastore, OCI Queue/Notifications, dashboard pages) #2522 review follow-ups (CodeRabbit review 5666620617):
    • azurearm: App Service slot ListFunctions/function lookups used the production app's data-plane name, so slots saw and modified production functions — now use the slot's own name.
    • gcpdatastore: transaction conflict missed when commit and read share a clock tick; entity-key encoding collisions on separator bytes (old snapshots still load); GQL double-quoted strings and DISTINCT ON (...) *; composite index required for inequalities on two properties; SUM/AVG skip unindexed properties; snapshot logs instead of silently dropping an index that fails to marshal.
    • Each fix has a regression test that failed before the fix.

In progress

  • CloudFormation: short default provisioning delay so stacks are observable in *_IN_PROGRESS (override with GOPHERSTACK_CFN_PROVISIONING_DELAY=0).
  • OCI Load Balancer: honour backend verifyPeerCertificate=false for loopback backends only; verify against uploaded CAs otherwise.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review c1c9f

This PR adds several new emulated services. Open concerns remain around DSQL IAM enforcement and job-execution privileges, plus a few test-stability and dashboard issues. The new OCI DNS code can delete too many records on an under-specified PATCH and can leave a zone partly updated after a rejected request. These are worth fixing before merge, but they affect a local emulator rather than production data.

Return the slot function resource type.

Slot-specific functions can now reach this envelope, but it reports Microsoft.Web/sites/functions. Their IDs identify Microsoft.Web/sites/slots/functions resources. Clients that classify resources by type receive an inconsistent identity. Select the type from id.Types and assert it in the slot test. (learn.microsoft.com)

Decode GQL escape sequences.

Double-quoted string literals now reach this scanner. For example, WHERE name = "a\nb" is decoded as anb, not a string containing a newline, so the query can return incorrect results. Decode the documented GQL escapes rather than copying the character after the backslash. (docs.cloud.google.com)

Match unordered inequalities against compatible indexes.

The new enforcement makes the index signature depend on filter order. For example, an index on (Priority, Score) is rejected when the same unordered query lists the Score filter first. Datastore can use any compatible index when the query has no ORDER BY. Match the inequality properties without requiring their filter order or ascending directions. (docs.cloud.google.com)

…t-in Vosk engine

Jobs run QUEUED/IN_PROGRESS/COMPLETED/FAILED on an injectable clock. The
media object is read from the in-process S3 backend, sniffed (WAV, FLAC,
OGG, MP3, MP4, AMR, WebM) and validated; missing media, unsupported or
mismatched format, sample-rate mismatch and too many channels fail the job
with the documented FailureReason texts.

The batch transcript JSON (and the medical and Call Analytics documents),
subtitle files and the redacted transcript are PUT to OutputBucketName /
OutputKey / OutputLocation, or served from a fetchable emulator URL when
the output is service-managed. Without an engine the transcript is empty
and no words are invented. --transcribe-engine=docker runs a pinned Vosk
server image with sha256-pinned small models for 18 language codes.

Update the backend_tls family note. It now contradicts the new behavior.

Line 80 says there is no InsecureSkipVerify and that verifyPeerCertificate=false does NOT disable verification. It also says the peer chain and IP SAN are always verified. backendTLSFor in services/ociloadbalancer/dataplane.go now sets InsecureSkipVerify for loopback backend IPs when the flag is false or unset. Line 90 documents that exception. Line 80 is unchanged and therefore stale. The audit file now makes two opposite claims.

Update the note so it states the loopback-only exception and says non-loopback backends stay verified.

Grant admin CREATE on the postgres database so it can run CREATE SCHEMA.

ALTER SCHEMA public OWNER TO admin does not give admin the database-level CREATE privilege that CREATE SCHEMA needs. EnsureAdmin only creates or alters the role with LOGIN CREATEDB CREATEROLE PASSWORD, and no statement in the bootstrap grants CREATE on the database. An admin session can therefore fail on CREATE SCHEMA. Adding the grant after the role exists fixes this.

Keep the launch gate closed during cancellation testing.

Receiving l.started does not establish that fakeLauncher.Launch has reached its select. If cancellation and close(l.gate) occur first, both cases are ready. Go can select the gate case, return an instance, and trigger teardown. The assertion that l.closed is empty then fails nondeterministically. (go.dev)

Remove this gate release. b.Close() already waits for the cancelled launch to exit.

Set the account on IAM-user principals.

This constructor leaves p.account empty for long-term credentials. With enforcement enabled, an otherwise valid allow policy conditioned on aws:PrincipalAccount = 123456789012 rejects that account's users. allows passes the empty value through, and services/iam/conditions.go, Lines 84–93, resolves the condition directly from PrincipalAccount. Apply permissions boundaries to STS principals.

These branches load identity policies but never assign p.boundary. With Enforce=true, an assumed role whose identity policy allows dsql:DbConnectAdmin can connect even when its permissions boundary denies that action. allows treats the missing boundary as unrestricted. Temporary credentials must remain constrained by their principal's boundary. (docs.aws.amazon.com)

Resolve the boundary for both role and user sessions before returning the principal. The existing IAM boundary lookup separates this document from identity policies in services/iam/middleware.go, Lines 125–134 and 208–232. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Execute jobs through a connection authenticated as the submitting role.

SET SESSION AUTHORIZATION does not remove the original superuser identity. Any user can reset session authorization to that identity. (postgresql.org)

A mapped non-admin role can call the publicly executable sys.gs_create_index_async directly with RESET SESSION AUTHORIZATION; ALTER ROLE app SUPERUSER. The function accepts arbitrary SQL (services/dsql/bootstrap.go, Lines 45–63 and 121–122). This worker then executes both statements on its superuser-authenticated connection; pgx v5.11.0 uses the simple protocol for Exec without arguments. This grants the caller database-superuser privileges. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Authenticate the execution connection as the submitting role. Also validate that queued SQL contains exactly one supported index statement at the enqueue boundary.

Do not consume done before cleanup waits on it.

Bound the broker readiness wait.

If Broker.Start exits before closing Ready, Handler.StartWorker still returns nil because it starts the broker asynchronously. This select then waits until the test context is canceled. Preserve the 10-second timeout for custom TLS dialing.

transportFor now sets DialTLSContext, so http.Transport no longer applies TLSHandshakeTimeout. dialTLS performs the handshake with only the supplied context. The proxy and health-check callers add their own deadlines, but a stalled handshake can still exceed the 10-second dialTimeout used by dialBackend.

The persistence check can pass without a pod restart.

deletePods returns when the API accepts the delete. The old pod can still be Terminating and serve requests through the NodePort. The until loop can then see ListBuckets succeed against the old pod. The next assertion then passes without testing the PVC.

Record the pod UID before the delete. Wait for a Ready pod with a different UID, and then run the ListBuckets assertion.

The function is about 110 lines. The guideline requires functions under 100 lines. Extract helpers for these steps:

  • k3s cluster setup, which returns inst, api, servingCA and kubeconfig
  • the persistence restart check
  • the uninstall wait

As per coding guidelines: "small focused functions (under 100 lines), cyclomatic complexity below 15 (extract helpers — never use //nolint)".

Separate the container listen port from the Service port.

service.port sets three things:

  • the PORT env var in configmap.yaml (Line 8)
  • the containerPort on this line
  • the Service port

A user who changes only the external Service port also changes the port the application binds to inside the container. The container drops all capabilities, so a value below 1024 can fail to bind, depending on the node's ip_unprivileged_port_start setting.

The internal port is part of the image interface. Hardcode it and expose only the Service port as a value. Keep targetPort: http in service.yaml.

♻️ Proposed change
-              containerPort: {{ .Values.service.port }}
+              containerPort: 8000

In configmap.yaml:

-  PORT: {{ .Values.service.port | quote }}
+  PORT: "8000"

Regenerate the golden files after this change.

Based on learnings: "the internal container port ... should be hardcoded rather than parameterized ... Flag templates that make the internal port configurable without cause."

Use the roleSubtitle constant instead of the "subtitle" literal.

documents.go already defines roleSubtitle. renderFiles sets outFile.role to that constant. objectKey and managedName compare against the raw string. If someone changes the constant, these two switches silently fall through to the default branch. That branch returns the main transcript key.

Disable credential persistence in checkout.

This job runs go test and never pushes to git. The checkout step still writes the token to .git/config by default. Set persist-credentials: false. This also clears the zizmor artipacked warning.

Do not use context.Background() in the cleanup.

The repository rule forbids context.Background() in tests. t.Context() is already canceled when t.Cleanup functions run. Passing it to Shutdown would give the handler a canceled context. Use context.WithoutCancel(t.Context()), as test/helm/install_test.go does.

Chunk getByIds requests to the server limit of 100 IDs.

The server proxy rejects a directoryObjects/getByIds body with more than graphPxMaxIDs (100) IDs (dashboard/azuregraph_proxy.go, graphIDsBody). resolvePrincipals sends all unique IDs in one call. A scope with more than 100 distinct principals returns 400. EntraRoles.svelte swallows the error with .catch(() => new Map()). Every principal then shows as a raw GUID.

Send the IDs in batches of 100.

Replace crypto.randomUUID() with a fallback for insecure contexts.

Browsers expose crypto.randomUUID only in secure contexts (HTTPS or localhost). This PR adds a Helm chart with a NodePort service. A user can open the dashboard over plain http://<node-ip>:<port>. In that case crypto.randomUUID is undefined. The default parameter throws a TypeError, and "Add role assignment" fails.

Use crypto.getRandomValues, which works in insecure contexts, as a fallback.

Show detailError outside the {#if detail} block.

select() sets detail = null before it calls loadDetail(). If getApplication fails, detail stays null. The {#if detail} block, which holds the error <p>, never renders, so the user sees nothing. select() also never clears detailError, so a stale message can appear on the next successful load.

Move the error element out of the block. Clear detailError in select().

The FROM scratch image ran as root with the binary at /root/gopherstack.
Move to distroless static:nonroot with the binary at /usr/local/bin
(WORKDIR, so ./gopherstack health still works) and /data owned by 65532.
Release, goreleaser and test Dockerfiles share the layout.

- docker-socket users add the socket group (--group-add / group_add);
  compose files, docs/docker.md and examples updated, examples run as root
- testcontainers modules and `gopherstack start` run as root when a host
  bind mount or the socket is requested
- helm chart defaults to runAsNonRoot 65532; install test asserts it
- k3sengine: reset umask to 022 before exec'ing k3s; the CA-key umask 077
  made every containerd image root 0700

Remove the gosec suppression from the archive path check.

//nolint:gosec hides a security diagnostic on the archive-extraction path. Keep the containment checks, but use filepath.IsLocal(f.Name) or another analyzer-visible path check before filepath.Join, then remove the suppression. filepath.IsLocal rejects absolute and parent-traversal paths. (pkg.go.dev)

This follows the repository rule to avoid nolint directives and keeps future path-traversal regressions visible to static analysis.

Allow callers to override the persistence user.

withPersistence() and withDockerSocket() make start() apply withUser("0:0"). The Node wrapper exposes no user customizer, although the shared README instructs callers to use one. Add withUser() and apply its value after the default root setting.

Persistence creates new directories with mode 0700. When root creates those directories in a host bind mount, a non-root host user may be unable to read or remove them. This is a minor integration issue because root execution is intentional and remains the default workaround.

Suggested fix
   #env = {};
   #binds = [];

   async start() {
     ...
     if (this.#root) container = container.withUser("0:0");
+    if (this.#user !== undefined) container = container.withUser(this.#user);

Also declare withUser(user: string): this in testcontainers/node/index.d.ts.

Keep existing container kwargs when adding the root user.

with_kwargs() in testcontainers-python 4.15.0, the minimum version this package requires, assigns a new dict to self._kwargs. It does not merge. with_persistence() and with_docker_socket() both call self.with_kwargs(user="0:0"), so any options set earlier are dropped. This includes options passed to the GopherstackContainer constructor, such as mem_limit or security_opt. The containers then start without those settings.

Merge the root user into the existing kwargs in both methods. The fix reads self._kwargs, a private attribute of DockerContainer, because the library exposes no public getter.

🔧 Suggested fix
-        self.with_kwargs(user="0:0")
+        self.with_kwargs(**{**self._kwargs, "user": "0:0"})
-        self.with_kwargs(user="0:0")
+        self.with_kwargs(**{**self._kwargs, "user": "0:0"})

Do not log with context.Background() in service code.

dispatchNotifications loads the logger from context.Background(). The repository rules forbid this pattern. They require the logger to come from the real request or root context. As a result, a failed publish is logged without the request or worker attributes.

Add a ctx context.Context parameter to flushEvents and dispatchNotifications. If changing the call sites is too broad, store the worker context on the backend in StartWorker. Then log with logger.Load(ctx).WarnContext(ctx, ...).

As per coding guidelines: "Logging MUST always be performed via log/slog and MUST always be pulled from the context". Based on learnings: "Do NOT introduce context.Background()/context.TODO() in service code or tests to satisfy a signature".

Pass the subtest t into mutate.

The mutate closure for "inactive key" calls require.NoError(t, err). That t belongs to the parent TestSignedURLHMAC, because mutate has no t parameter. The closure runs inside a parallel subtest. If the assertion fails, FailNow runs on the parent test from the subtest goroutine. The testing package then panics, and the real failure is hidden.

Update the mutate callback signature and its invocation in TestSignedURLHMAC to
pass the active subtest’s testing.T, and adjust every mutate literal to accept
that parameter so assertions run against the correct test.

Stream the decompressed body instead of buffering it.

io.ReadAll(zr) puts the whole decompressed object in memory before any byte is written. A gzip object of a few megabytes can expand to gigabytes. One upload with Content-Encoding: gzip followed by a plain GET can therefore exhaust the emulator's memory.

Write the headers first, then copy zr to the response with io.Copy. If the gzip header is invalid, gzip.NewReader fails before any write, so that fallback still works. If an error occurs in the middle of the stream, stop writing and let the client see a short body.

Replace the io.ReadAll(zr) buffering path with streaming from zr to the response
using io.Copy after writing the response headers; on a copy error, stop without
serving the original body as a fallback. Preserve the existing fallback for gzip
reader creation failures before any response bytes are written.

Reject rdata without rtype instead of ignoring it.

For REQUIRE, PROHIBIT and REMOVE, spec normalizes rdata only when s.domain and s.rtype are both set. If the caller sends domain and rdata without rtype, s.rdata stays empty. removeRecord then treats the operation as "remove everything at the domain" and deletes every record set there. REQUIRE and PROHIBIT likewise match any record at the domain.

A common trigger is PatchDomainRecords with {operation: REMOVE, rdata: "192.0.2.1"}. The path supplies the domain but not the rtype. The request is meant to delete one record but deletes all records at the domain.

Review comment at @services/ocidns/records.go around lines 349 - 356:
Update the `spec` logic around `normRdata` to reject any request with `in.Rdata`
set and `s.rtype` empty, returning the existing missing-field error for `rtype`.
Then normalize RDATA when the domain is set and the type is not SOA, preserving
the existing behavior for requests without RDATA.

Apply UpdateZone atomically.

applyZoneUpdate sets z.ResolutionMode and z.DnssecState on the live zone. Only after that does applyExternals validate externalMasters and externalDownstreams. applyExternals also sets z.ExternalMasters before it checks the downstreams. If a later check fails, UpdateZone returns 400, but the earlier fields stay changed. The etag and Modified are not updated, so later conditional requests see a modified zone with an old etag.

Example: a PRIMARY zone receives {dnssecState: ENABLED, externalMasters: [{address: "192.0.2.1"}]}. The request returns 400 InvalidParameter, and dnssecState remains ENABLED.

Validate every field first and assign them at the end. An alternative is to work on a copy (cp := *z) and commit it with *z = cp only on success.

Update applyZoneUpdate to apply all requested changes to a copy of z, including
mutations made by applyExternals, and assign the copy back to z only when every
validation succeeds. On any error, leave the live zone unchanged.

The non-root image change used FROM --platform=$BUILDPLATFORM and COPY --chmod,
both BuildKit-only, so testcontainers' local image build failed with an empty
