What and why

Python classified b as a property in def f(a: str, b: str): pass because the generic comma/colon heuristic could not distinguish a parameter from a dictionary key. Track Python's open delimiters and supply that context during identifier classification. Dictionary keys, member access, and explicit custom rules retain their priority.

Share immutable delimiter and lambda-parameter scopes across streaming checkpoints so multiline signatures and dictionaries keep batch-equivalent highlighting without copying growing stacks. Unparenthesized lambda parameters inside dictionaries remain variables. Add regression tests, a correctness corpus fixture, a patch changeset, and the upcoming release note.

Closes #2.

Bundle size

Browser ESM, gzip level 9, CSS excluded; existing budgets are unchanged.

Bundle Before After Delta
Core 3,774 B 3,786 B +12 B
JavaScript default 4,294 B 4,307 B +13 B
All languages 23,273 B 23,356 B +83 B

Validation

bun run check passes: lint, type checks, tests (including 720 library tests), builds, bundle budgets, and packed-package installation checks. The docs build emits five filesystem-tracing warnings in existing changelog code.

Regression tests were observed failing before the fix. Coverage includes annotated parameters, nested dictionaries, lambdas, custom-rule precedence, streamed prefixes, bounded rescanning within multiline brackets, and 75,000-line incomplete nesting. An additional 5,000 generated Python streaming cases pass. The deep-nesting regression took about 2.74 seconds before the review fix and 59 ms in the final full check.

Checklist

  • bun run check passes
  • Tests cover the change
  • Changeset added
  • Docs updated with the upcoming release note

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Python annotated parameters after commas and unparenthesized lambda parameters inside dictionaries are now highlighted as variables rather than dictionary keys, including in multiline and streamed text.

Walkthrough

The Python scanner now tracks open delimiters and passes object-key context to the tokenizer. Annotated parameters after commas are classified as variables, while dictionary keys and members retain property classifications. Resume checkpoints preserve open brackets.

The Python scanner tracks open delimiters and saves them in resumable checkpoints. Streaming tests compare chunked scans with batch tokenization, and a performance test checks scanning with many open delimiters. The changeset and changelog describe the highlighting fixes.

Explanation

Issue #2 requires annotated Python parameters after commas to use the variable category. The Python scanner now tracks delimiter and lambda-parameter context and disables dictionary-key classification outside { contexts. Tests cover def f(a: str, b: str): pass, streamed multiline signatures, dictionary keys, member access, and custom-rule priority.

Explanation

The changes support Issue #2. Resumable scope state preserves batch-equivalent streaming behavior. Corpus fixtures, regression tests, the performance test, changeset, and release note document or verify the same Python highlighting correction. No unrelated change is shown in the supplied evidence.

Explanation

No functions found in the changed files to evaluate docstring coverage. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 0 functions across 7 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

- Line 66: Update the PythonFrame checkpoint state used to initialize frames so
streamed writes reuse delimiter-stack state instead of copying the full brackets
array for each line; preserve correct delimiter tracking across checkpoints.
- Line 102: Update the Python expression-scanning context that sets
context.objectKeys so commas in unparenthesized lambda parameters inside
dictionary braces are not classified as dictionary keys; track lambda-parameter
context separately and stop tracking it at the parameter-list colon. Add the
regression case for `x = {'f': lambda a, b: 1}` and verify `b` is classified as
a variable.
