Summary
When manually migrating an npm project with an existing
vitedependency, the guide tells readers to add an alias override but leaves the original dependency unchanged. npm rejects the conflicting specifications withEOVERRIDE, so the next install fails.Add an npm-specific note and example that show how to align the existing dependency with its override:
"devDependencies": { - "vite": "^8.0.0", + "vite": "npm:@voidzero-dev/vite-plus-core@1.3.0", "vite-plus": "1.3.0" }, "overrides": { "vite": "npm:@voidzero-dev/vite-plus-core@1.3.0", "vitest": "5.0.5" }The note also explains the same requirement for an existing direct
vitestdependency and tells readers to reinstall after editing the manifest.Evidence
Verified with npm 11.19.0 using
npm install --ignore-scripts --no-audit --no-fundin isolated projects.vite: "^8.0.0"dependency conflicts with the alias override. Installation fails withEOVERRIDE.After: The example extracted from the updated documentation installs successfully. The installed
vitealias resolves to@voidzero-dev/vite-plus-core.vitest: "^5.0.5"dependency conflicts with the exact5.0.5override.After: Using
5.0.5for both installs successfully.vitedependency also installs successfully.git diff --checkpass. Independent diff review found no issues.Merge Danger
