Add the LICENSE file and raise the minimum iOS/macOS versions #49

Closed

Description

@kvz

Publishing 3.6.0 surfaced two problems that make every release harder and the package look unmaintained.

Missing LICENSE file

Transloadit.podspec declares s.license = { :type => 'MIT', :file => 'LICENSE' }, but the repository has no LICENSE file. CocoaPods warns about it on every pod trunk push, and the MIT license itself asks for its text to ship with the software, so license scanners find nothing for this SDK.

  • Add an MIT LICENSE file, like our other SDKs have (e.g. transloadit/node-sdk); confirm the copyright holder and year.

Minimum OS versions no current Xcode can build

The podspec says iOS 10.0 and macOS 10.11, and Package.swift says .iOS(.v10), .macOS(.v10_10). Xcode 27 rejects those deployment targets, so the 3.6.0 publication only passed with a temporary validation override and --allow-warnings (see CONTRIBUTING.md once #48 lands), and every future release would need the same workaround.

  • Decide the new minimums (the 3.6.0 validation build used iOS 15.0 and macOS 12.0). Apps that still support older OS versions keep working with 3.6.0 and earlier, but wouldn't get newer releases.
  • Raise them in both Transloadit.podspec and Package.swift, note it in the changelog, and drop the override from CONTRIBUTING.md once a plain pod trunk push validates.

    The changes are in draft PR #50: MIT license, matching iOS 15.0 / macOS 12.0 declarations, changelog entry, release docs, and the unused-binding warning fix.

    On Xcode 27.0 / Swift 6.4 / CocoaPods 1.17.0, swift build passes and swift test passes all 30 existing tests. Plain pod lib lint Transloadit.podspec (with no validation override and no --allow-warnings) removes the license warning but still fails on TUSKit 3.6.0's iOS 10.0 / macOS 10.11 targets. The SDK's own targets are now accepted.

    TUSKit 3.6.0 is the latest CocoaPods release, and 3.7.0 removed CocoaPods support. Strict validation on Xcode 27 needs a maintained TUSKit podspec/release or an agreed dependency strategy. The PR and CONTRIBUTING.md document this remaining publication blocker. No release or CocoaPods trunk push was performed.

    Final validation for draft PR #50: swift build passed, all 30 existing swift test tests passed, and the example's generic iOS Simulator build passed for arm64 and x86_64 after first reproducing the iOS 14 deployment-target failure. CI on the final commit is green. The second council-review round found no issues; latest main is included.

    Plain pod lib lint Transloadit.podspec still fails solely on the published TUSKit 3.6.0 podspec's iOS 10.0 / macOS 10.11 targets. No temporary validation override or --allow-warnings was used. The missing-license warning is resolved. The required strict lint gate therefore remains blocked on a TUSKit CocoaPods maintenance/dependency decision, documented in the PR and contributor guide; the PR remains draft pending that decision. No release or CocoaPods trunk push was performed.

    Kevin accepted the TUSKit 3.6.0 validation limitation for merging #50. CONTRIBUTING.md and the PR now limit --allow-warnings to its obsolete deployment targets until TUSKit publishes newer minimums or TransloaditKit leaves CocoaPods, and note that Xcode 27 still rejects those targets with build errors even with the flag.

    CI on the latest commit is green, latest main is included, and PR #50 is ready for review with tim-kos requested. Merge is left to the dispatcher. No release or CocoaPods trunk push was performed.
