Play test tone is silent; interviewer voice is always audible

Steps to reproduce

1. Open the interview page; the media preflight starts.
2. Press Play test tone: always silent.
3. Switch the output device (unplug/plug headphones), press Play it again: occasionally heard once, then silent again.
4. Control: after the interview starts, the interviewer's voice is always audible from the default output device.

Expected behavior

The test tone should play from the default output device exactly like the interviewer's voice, audible from the first press.

Actual

The test tone is silent; only occasionally audible once right after a device switch. The interviewer's voice on the same default device never has this problem.

Environment

• OS: Windows 11
• Browser: Chrome
• Build: released binary (exe) from Releases

Could you check if this is still reproducible with the latest version? I gave it a try, but I couldn't reproduce the issue on my end...

Yes, this issue is still reproducible on the latest version.

However, I tested it on another laptop, and everything worked normally there.

Here are a few additional details from cross-testing on two different laptops:

• Hardware comparison:
  • Affected laptop: Uses a Realtek Audio driver.
  • Working laptop: Tested on a second laptop using a Conexant SmartAudio HD driver, where the test tone works completely fine.

P.S. The audio issue only happens on the test tone; the interviewer's voice is audible after the interview starts.

Update: I've narrowed it down by browser since then.

On the same Windows laptop (Realtek audio driver):

• Reproduces in Chrome and Edge, in both normal and incognito windows.
• Does NOT reproduce in Brave, Opera, or Vivaldi.

It might be related to some browser settings specific to Chrome/Edge on my
end, so I'll keep testing to see what changes it.
