Testing syntax in markdown is problematic.

This syntax breaks markdown rendering on GitHub which makes it very hard to read the material casually, and that is the only use this material gets until the book is (someday, maybe) eventually published.

It would be better (for example) to embed the extra stuff in markdown comments with special syntax markers.
