log file management

Hi there,

This feature addresses the need for log file management in production environments where:

• Log files can grow unbounded without rotation The Log file is too big #489
• Disk space management is critical
• Historical log retention policies are required
• Compliance requires log file archival

Here is my PR for the change I proposed, I’d appreciate a review when convenient.?
