fix(providers): ~/ Binary paths work for OpenCode, Grok and Pi - #29330
A provider Binary path that starts with ~/, such as ~/.local/bin/opencode (a wrapper around flatpak run), was passed to spawn literally. The spawn failed with ENOENT, and Settings → Providers showed "Not found · OpenCode CLI (opencode) is not installed or not on PATH". The same happens for Grok and Pi. Codex, Claude and Muse already expand ~.
Reproduction on main (47f2c8d): set OpenCode's Binary path to ~/…/opencode, an executable wrapper exec opencode "$@". The server logs PlatformError: NotFound: ChildProcess.spawn (~/…/opencode --version) and the provider shows "Not found". The same wrapper given as an absolute path is detected (v1.18.18, authenticated, 120 models). Grok and Pi with ~/… wrappers also show "Not found".
Change
The OpenCode, Grok and Pi drivers now build effectiveConfig with binaryPath: expandHomePath(config.binaryPath, yield* HostProcess.HomeDirectory), the same line the Codex, Claude and Muse drivers use. Each driver also passes effectiveConfig instead of the raw config to its orchestration adapter's create. Without that, Settings would report the provider ready while starting a turn still spawned ~/…. Bare command names and absolute paths are unchanged.
The issue reports OpenCode. Grok and Pi have the same defect on the same code path (reproduced on main), so they are fixed the same way here.
Verification
Focused tests, one per driver. All three fail on main with the raw path and pass with the fix:
packages/provider-opencode/src/server/driver.test.ts: "probes and starts a ~/ binary path from the home directory". On main: expected [ '~/bin/opencode' ] to deeply equal [ '/test-home/bin/opencode' ].
packages/provider-grok/src/server/driver.test.ts: "probes a ~/ binary path from the home directory". On main the raw ~/bin/grok is spawned.
packages/provider-pi/src/server/driver.test.ts: "launches a ~/ binary path from the home directory". On main: expected [ '~/bin/pi' ] to deeply equal [ '/test-home/bin/pi' ].
vp run check:changed passes: format, lint, knip, typecheck of 11 packages, and tests in 4 files.
Runtime check: the web dev server on a fresh database, with ~/… Binary paths pointing at executable wrappers for opencode, grok and pi.
…rok and Pi
These tests reproduce #29302: a binaryPath starting with ~/ reaches the
spawned command unexpanded for the OpenCode, Grok and Pi drivers, so the
status probe fails with ENOENT and the provider shows "Not found".

A Binary path such as ~/.local/bin/opencode reached spawn unexpanded for
the OpenCode, Grok and Pi drivers, so the status probe failed with ENOENT
and Settings showed "Not found". These drivers now expand the path against
the home directory like Codex, Claude and Muse, and hand the expanded
config to their orchestration adapters so sessions launch the same binary.
The Grok reproduction test now checks every argv element, since agent
launches can be wrapped in /bin/sh and the maintenance lookup may spawn npm.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Grok, OpenCode and Pi now resolve home-relative binary paths consistently across provider operations. Standard executable names and product defaults remain unchanged, keeping the change narrowly scoped to custom path handling.

Walkthrough
Grok, OpenCode, and Pi drivers now expand configured ~/ binary paths against the host home directory before passing their effective configuration to adapters. Tests verify the expanded paths.

Summary
Expand paths before adapter creation packages/provider-{grok,opencode,pi}/src/server/driver.ts, packages/provider-{grok,opencode,pi}/src/server/driver.test.ts
The drivers expand configured binary paths against the host home directory and pass the effective configuration to their adapters. Tests verify that ~/bin/... paths resolve under /test-home during refresh.
The change is mergeable; strengthen driver-level session-launch coverage as recommended.

The description includes the required Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. It explains the failure, implementation, linked issue, focused tests, runtime results, and limitations. It does not include an explicit maintainer approval comment, but it explains why this focused fix covers the same defect across the affected providers.

Explanation
Issue [#29302] requires OpenCode to run when its configured path uses ~/, including a wrapper for Flatpak. packages/provider-opencode/src/server/driver.ts expands config.binaryPath with HostProcess.HomeDirectory and passes effectiveConfig to the orchestration adapter. The focused test in packages/provider-opencode/src/server/driver.test.ts verifies the expanded path during probing and startup. This covers the coding requirement. Real Flatpak and AppImage runtime verification is not required for this assessment.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes stay within the reported path-expansion defect. OpenCode implements issue [#29302]. Grok and Pi use the same driver path and receive the same fix, with focused regression tests for each driver. The added tests directly verify the changed behavior. No unrelated production behavior or unrelated files were changed.

Add session-launch assertions to all three driver tests.
instance.snapshot.refresh exercises only status or runtime probing. It does not call the adapter’s openSession. Reverting only config: effectiveConfig to config: config can therefore leave these tests passing because the probe paths use effectiveConfig separately.
Open a session through each returned driver instance and assert the expanded binary path. Include the OpenCode 1.x selection. Keep these checks in the driver tests because the regression is the driver-to-adapter handoff; adapter-only tests cannot detect the driver passing the raw configuration.

Require a server startup attempt.
The version probe also adds an entry to binaryPaths. This assertion can therefore pass if startOpenCodeServerProcess is never called. Record probe and startup paths separately and assert that both are present.
As per coding guidelines: “Backend behavior changes ship with focused tests for that behavior.”
