Native Rector preview validation currently lives inside the optional workflow helper, coupling reusable schema checks to workflow classification. Extract those existing predicates into src/Refactoring/RectorJsonReportParser and inject it into the helper. The parser returns the decoded native payload, retaining optional fields and order. The helper keeps its report-size budget, statuses, diagnostic mapping and report/fail policy.

Validation order, exception class/messages, native exits and CLI output remain unchanged. No new public CLI envelope, format, command or write authority is introduced. Direct parser tests cover retained native data, absent lists, malformed schemas and inconsistent exits; existing real native integration now also qualifies the source parser. Touched mixed/opaque arguments use verified parameter names. Docs are limited to a distinct appended section of the canonical process/result guide; required patch fragment included.

For #10, independent of draft #94. This PR starts directly from main 159cdcca916e18c3d76853d093a20e3607856526; its HEAD is 07d5bb466d7d9c26121e611be15ddec31711e77e. A local merge-tree check confirms no conflict with #94, including separate documentation hunks. No changes to release channels #90, Composer, distribution, headers, binaries or workflow YAML.

Current validation:

  • Independent read-only review of exact HEAD: no actionable findings; native predicate/message/order parity, construction sites, autowiring and named signatures checked.
  • Diff whitespace check passes; working tree clean.
  • Local suites/builds have not run: shared Mac one-minute load was 31.7, above the agreed threshold 14, and PHAR has priority of the heavy slot. Hosted CI will provide actual current-head runtime evidence without consuming that slot.
  • Hosted Quality: PHP 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5 pass. PHP 8.5 full suite: 312 tests / 2,587 assertions. PR Standards, Changelog and CodeQL pass.
  • Codex code and security reviews completed on the exact HEAD with no findings.
  • CodeRabbit review was rejected by the actual included-review rate limit: next included review approximately 22:08 UTC on 2026-10-28. The neutral/rate-limited check is not a successful review. No duplicate request or billing/permission change is made; this merge gate remains blocked.

Draft for human approval. No merge, PR approval or release is performed.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Rector preview reports are validated for malformed data, inconsistent counts, invalid paths, and exit-code mismatches. Valid reports retain their original content and ordering.
    • Optional analysis continues to classify operational errors and changed files, with existing status and reporting policies unchanged.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified report-validation behavior, including how optional fields and diff text are handled. The public preview command’s output, options, and exit codes remain unchanged.

The pull request adds RectorJsonReportParser to validate completed Rector JSON reports against the native report structure and process exit code. Optional analysis delegates Rector report validation to this parser and uses the validated report to classify results.

Changes: Native Rector report validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate native Rector reports
src/Refactoring/RectorJsonReportParser.php, tests/Refactoring/RectorJsonReportParserTest.php
The new parser validates report fields, list entries, paths, and exit-code consistency. Tests check that valid reports remain unchanged and invalid reports retain their established diagnostics.

Optional analysis integration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Integrate report validation into optional analysis
.github/OptionalAnalysis/NativeReportParser.php, tests/Automation/*, tests/Integration/*
The optional workflow delegates Rector validation to the new parser and builds diagnostics from native errors and changed-file paths. Tests inject the parser and retain existing classification assertions.
Document the report contract
docs/process-contracts.rst, .changelog/extract-rector-report-validation.md
The documentation and changelog describe native report validation and state that CLI output, exits, and optional workflow policy remain unchanged.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "refactor: reuse native Rector report validation" matches the main change. The PR extracts native Rector preview validation predicates into RectorJsonReportParser and injects that parser into NativeReportParser, which is the reuse the title describes. It is short, single-sentence, and specific, and it follows the conventional commit prefix style.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description is related to the changeset. It explains the extraction of native Rector preview validation into src/Refactoring/RectorJsonReportParser, the injection into the optional workflow helper, the retained validation order, exception messages, and exits, the added parser tests, and the appended documentation section. It also gives CI status and review state. It is detailed and on-topic.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 17 functions across 7 files. A rabbit checks each report with care,
For counts and paths that must be there.
Native records stay in their place,
While errors keep their message trace.
Then off the workflow hops with grace.

@codex review

Please review exact HEAD 07d5bb466d7d9c26121e611be15ddec31711e77e, including security. This extraction must preserve existing Rector native validation predicates/messages/order, workflow bounds/classification/policy and all CLI output/exits. It introduces no public CLI envelope or command.

@coderabbitai full review

One full-review request for exact HEAD 07d5bb466d7d9c26121e611be15ddec31711e77e. Please check semantic parity of extracted validation, workflow DI/autowiring and policy/size boundaries, named signatures, and regression coverage. This PR is independent of #94; draft status is intentional.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Split parse() to reduce its measured complexity.

PHPMD reports a cyclomatic complexity of 15 (threshold 10) and an NPath complexity of 960 (threshold 200) for parse(). The changed-file check and the exit-code check are separate rules. Extract each into a private method. Keep the call order unchanged so the first-failure diagnostics stay identical.
