spec(print page) ① of #8346: a page gains an optional print declaration, a linted printable-block subset, the list-export retirement sentence made true, and the three zero-reader document schemas retired #22158

Description

@objectstack-fleet

Part of #8346. This is split card ① of the ruling 6051470224 (B′, maintainer 「8346 B′」, 2026-10-08T03:18Z, recorded by the director seat). Filed by the domain:spec seat 3 (seat post #18883, session_01RPo7FUd6bSnAfkWMAKi848), the design parent's holder. ⛔ Not a claim.

The ruling this card executes (verbatim, from 6051470224)

B′. A document is a page with a print declaration; no new template type.

  • The template is a page. … The page gains an optional print declaration: paper size and orientation, margins, header and footer blocks, page numbering, page-break hints, mapped to print CSS (@page, repeated table heads, break-inside). A printable block subset is defined and linted: a block that virtualises rows or lays out responsively is refused inside a print page, with pins.
  • The 17.0 retirement stands and its text changes. List export does not regain 'pdf'; the retirement sentence in packages/spec/src/ui/list-view-export-options.ts ("PDF export itself was declined as NOT PLANNED") is rewritten to point at the print page, because it is no longer true. The zero-reader DocumentTemplateSchema, DocumentSchema and ESignatureConfigSchema retire in v18 under ADR-0049 with ADR-0087 entries, so that "template" means one thing.
  • ⛔ Not taken: A (restoring 'pdf' on list export …), B (a second authoring vocabulary beside pages …), C as the end state …, a Word-upload template kind, batch merging or packaged downloads …, and the in-process pdfmake-class driver.

The split, from the same ruling:

  • ① spec (this card);
  • ② objectui (domain:ui): the print CSS mapping, the printable blocks, the record page's print action;
  • ③ the render service, the Chromium driver and the service-storage archive entry (domain:services);
  • ④ the record-page "generate PDF" action and the attachment on the record.

"Each card carries its refusal cases and the contract review; the Studio author's skill learns the print page when ① lands."

Scope of ① (spec only)

Read on main fec87e7e0:

  1. print on PageSchema (packages/spec/src/ui/page.zod.ts:788, a strictObject). Optional and closed:

    • paper size and orientation;
    • margins;
    • header and footer blocks (page blocks);
    • page numbering;
    • page-break hints.

    Every key is declared with a .describe() that names what it maps to in print CSS. ⛔ Nothing is declared that no renderer will honour: each key names its consumer, ② (browser print) and later ③ (the Chromium driver). Per the declared-equals-enforced rule, a key whose ② consumer does not exist yet is either left out of ① or recorded as a liveness-ledger row in planned naming ②.

  2. The printable block subset and its lint. A block that virtualises rows or lays out responsively is refused inside a page that declares print, with its location, at the authoring doors (os validate / os build and the save door, per the existing page-block lint family). Pinned: each refused block type, plus a print page built only from printable blocks (record field blocks, static all-rows tables, text, images) that passes.

  3. The retirement sentence in packages/spec/src/ui/list-view-export-options.ts (:38, "(PDF export itself was declined as NOT PLANNED) — no renderer has ever produced a PDF …") is rewritten to point at the print page. ⛔ 'pdf' does not return to exportOptions.

  4. Three retirements under ADR-0049, each with its ADR-0087 entry: DocumentTemplateSchema, DocumentSchema and ESignatureConfigSchema (packages/spec/src/data/document.zod.ts).

    • The claimant measures "zero readers" first, across the repo and objectui.
    • The spec-property-retirement skill (.claude/skills/) is the kit: tombstone or removal route, the liveness-ledger discipline, generated baselines, docs and pins.

Contract notes for the claimant

  • Clause-②: yes: print widens PageSchema's public face. The retirements and the printable-subset refusal narrow, so the arm is (narrowing) and BREAKING with its ADR-0087 dispositions. The contract review is owed at CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER.
  • It may land in passes (for example the print declaration and lint first, the retirements second), each Part of this card.
  • Serial: page.zod.ts and document.zod.ts are in the spec lane's hot surface. Read open PRs' file lists at claim.

    Claim: PM loop round 1 (split card ① of #8346's ruling 6051470224) · 2026-10-08T03:24Z
    Session: session_01RPo7FUd6bSnAfkWMAKi848
    Account: os-justin (the seat's linked user as GET /user answers it; the card's assignee from this act)
    Branch: claude/issue-22158-print-page-spec
    Worktree: objectstack-issue-22158
    Domain: domain:spec
    Seat: domain:spec#3 (seat post #18883)
    File surface (at origin/main fec87e7e0; stop on breach and explain in the report):

    • packages/spec/src/ui/page.zod.ts: the optional print declaration on PageSchema (:788).
    • The printable-subset lint, in the existing page-block lint family under packages/lint/src/ (located at claim), wired to the authoring doors that family already reaches.
    • packages/spec/src/ui/list-view-export-options.ts (:38): the retirement sentence.
    • packages/spec/src/data/document.zod.ts: the three retirements, with their ADR-0087 entries under packages/spec/src/migrations/** and the regenerated registry.ts, the liveness-ledger rows, and the generated baselines and references the spec-property-retirement kit names.
    • Their tests, and .changeset/22158-*.md.
      Container & model: L, mode:subagent, model: opus (--tier: the contract surface; built at the default tier, with the contract review owed at CONTRACT_REVIEW_TIER, reason: Clause-②: yes, a widened PageSchema with narrowing retirements and a lint refusal)
      Clause-②: yes
      Responsibility: n/a — not a defect card
      Thread-read: none
      Serial constraints cleared:
    • Open PR fix(spec): the retirement sentence names --write: it applies the edits it can prove, you apply the rest #22142 (seat 1's feat(cli): os migrate meta --write — the AST codemod that rewrites authored sources for the mechanical applied set (v18) #9591, a retirement-sentence wording sweep) edits one line each in list-view-export-options.ts and page.zod.ts. That may be the same sentence this card rewrites. It is ordinary concurrency: whichever lands later merges main and stacks both intents (--write named in the sentence, and the sentence pointing at the print page).
    • No other open PR touches page.zod.ts, document.zod.ts or list-view-export-options.ts (all open PRs' file lists read at this stamp).

    Clause-②: yes with the (narrowing) arm: print widens PageSchema, while the retirements and the printable-subset refusal narrow. That means BREAKING, with its ADR-0087 dispositions, graded by the release state at push.

The parse refuses `print` on slotted / html / jsx / react / list pages, on a full page with no regions, and repeatHeader/repeatFooter without that region (checkPagePrintComposition, exported, attached by identifier). (2) The printable block subset is an allow list in the spec (PRINTABLE_PAGE_COMPONENT_TYPES 13, PRINT_REFUSED_PAGE_COMPONENT_TYPES 39 with reasons; 4 retired types refused at parse already) and @objectstack/lint's new gating rule print-page-block-unprintable (validatePrintPageBlocks) enforces it on os validate/build/lint and the page save door (CLI_AND_RUNTIME, runtimeTypes ['page']). (3) LIST_VIEW_EXPORT_PDF_RETIRED drops 'declined as NOT PLANNED' and points at allowPrinting / a page that declares `print`; 'pdf' stays refused. (4) data/document.zod.ts retired whole: DocumentTemplateSchema, DocumentSchema, ESignatureConfigSchema and the orphaned DocumentVersionSchema via RETIRED_DEFS_BY_MAJOR[18] + D3 `document-schemas-retired` + a step-18 rationale fragment; zero readers measured in objectstack, objectui (pin and main) and hotcrm.",

    ✅ ACCEPT: PR #22193 at d4b428426. Parked for the contract review

    domain:spec seat 3 (#18883) · os-justin · session session_01RPo7FUd6bSnAfkWMAKi848 · 2026-10-08T05:43Z · holder of claim 6051529167. Report read: 6053181767.

    Checked on GitHub and against origin/main, not from the report:

    • Shape:
      • 54 files, +1690/−1565 (3255 changed lines, under the 5000 human-merge threshold). It merges cleanly with main at this stamp.
      • 0 of 54 paths hit the governed register (check-governed-merges --pr 22193).
      • The PR body's first line is Fixes #22158, with no closing keyword next to export: PDF / print document generation — re-planned for v18, superseding the #1301 NOT_PLANNED closure #8346, which stays open for ②–④.
      • Clause-②: yes (narrowing) sits at a line start in the body and the changeset.
      • @objectstack/spec and @objectstack/lint ship minor with a BREAKING section and adr-0087: registered document-schemas-retired, because .changeset/pre.json is absent on main.
      • No model identifier is in the body or the commits.
    • The ruling's four clauses (6051470224, letter B′) are each present in the diff:
      1. PageSchema.print is a closed, optional PagePrintSchema with no defaults:

        • paper size and orientation;
        • margins in millimetres;
        • a running header and footer as the page's own header / footer regions, via repeatHeader / repeatFooter;
        • page numbers, and the page-break hints repeatTableHeaders / avoidBreakInside.

        Every describe names its consumer, and the liveness ledger carries print with its 10 nested keys as planned, naming card ②. The aliases / guidance maps are strictObject's refusal prescriptions (near-miss words), not second spellings.

      2. The printable subset is an allow list in the spec (13 types). The new gating rule print-page-block-unprintable in @objectstack/lint refuses every other type inside a print page, with its reason, at os validate / os build and the page save door.

      3. LIST_VIEW_EXPORT_PDF_RETIRED no longer says "declined as NOT PLANNED". It points at a page that declares print and at the view's allowPrinting, and 'pdf' stays refused.

      4. DocumentTemplateSchema, DocumentSchema and ESignatureConfigSchema retire whole, through RETIRED_DEFS_BY_MAJOR[18] and a D3 entry. The zero-reader census covers objectstack, objectui (pin and main) and hotcrm, each with a positive control. The cloud repo was not measured.

    • Gates: 116 derived families and 43 artifact-roster commands, all exit 0; --ran gives 116 run and 0 not measured. The spec suite is 678 files green, and lint is 125 files green.

    Seat positions on the dev's two open_questions. Both are technical choices inside the ruling; neither changes it:

    1. Running header and footer as the page's own regions (A, as landed), not page-block arrays under print. The ruling names "header and footer blocks". Regions are blocks the page already composes, walks, translates and designs, so this keeps one composition root. A.
    2. The 13-type allow list (A, as landed). The ruling refuses "a block that virtualises rows or lays out responsively". The list also refuses controls, inputs, shell chrome and folding containers, each with a reason, and any type outside the vocabulary. An allow list is the loud, contract-first form of "a printable block subset is defined and linted", and widening it later is additive on a named pull. A.

    The contract review judges both against the ruling's text. If either conflicts with it, the item goes back to the director, not to this seat.

    For the contract review:

    • DocumentVersionSchema retires as a fourth export. Its only carrier was DocumentSchema.versioning.versions.
    • The subset rule runs on the page save door from birth (CLI_AND_RUNTIME). Its false-refusal population is empty by construction, since no page could carry print before this PR.
    • About 15 files fall outside the claim's surface. Each was forced by a gate or the retirement kit and changes no behaviour (pins, transcript counts, ledger rows, llms.txt, PROTOCOL_MAP.md).

    Out-of-scope findings, each dispositioned:

    • content/docs/ui/views.mdx:112 still says "PDF export was declined". Objectui still carries the old "declined as NOT PLANNED" sentence. Charts (object-chart) and the page template are not in the subset. Carried by card ②, which this seat files citing this PR's shape.
    • The ruling's "the Studio author's skill learns the print page", and skills/objectstack-ui/rules/actions.md's per-project /pdf endpoint. This is Tier H. Carried by a governed draft this seat files when ① lands.
    • docs/NEXT_STEP.md:55 still plans ui/document-template.zod.ts. Acceptance notes: a stale plan line with no runtime effect.

    The PR carries needs:contract-review from this act until a PASS on its landing head.

(2) spec type-alias-convention.pin.test.ts 'still declares all 772 isomorphic pins' (773): NOT a pin main brought in — main 959c209d5 has 772 Iso lines and literal 772; the PagePrintSchema pin added one, and the same first edit dropped the space in the untouched Iso_ui_page__PageTypeSchema line ('=Assert'), which the count's pattern ('^export type Iso\\\\w+ = Assert' plus a less-than sign) then missed, so d4b428426 read 772 green by accident; this round's space fix (the review nit) exposed 773. Literal, case title and header prose now 773 with an arrow entry. (3) checkPagePrintComposition refuses `print` on type 'utility' (floating panel, not a document) in the list refusal's voice, every refusal names the admitted types record/home/app from one phrase, the `print` describe names them; pinned in page-print.test.ts and object-refinement-check-exports.test.ts. Landed: PR #22193 → 326a90a4a3. The card closes completed

    domain:spec seat 3 (#18883) · os-justin · session session_01RPo7FUd6bSnAfkWMAKi848 · 2026-10-08T10:47Z · holder of claim 6051529167.

    Carried elsewhere (#8346's split, filed by this seat after this record):

    • cards ② (objectui), ③ (the render service) and ④ (the record-page "generate PDF" action);
    • the Studio author's skill learning the print page.

    The review's nits go to card ②: the record:line_items 500-row cap under print. The pre-mode wording in .claude/skills/spec-property-retirement/SKILL.md:291 ("minor, never major") is noted on this seat's handover ledger for the skills lane.

    This act removes pm:dispatched from the closed card. domain:spec, target:v18 and the type label stay.
