[Bug]: HEIC file previews not showing or generating after update to 34.0.5 #2613

- I'm using a maintained major version of Nextcloud Server and tested against the latest patch level. (Supported major versions and current patch levels).

- I've tried my best to provide clear reproduction steps that someone unfamiliar with this bug could use to reproduce it.
Bug description
Updated from 34.0.4 to 34.0.5 last night and all my HEIC previews are refusing to show. These were existing previews that were already pre-generated. New ones don't generate either.
Steps to reproduce
- Open NC and look at HEIC images in any app that uses previews (Files, Photos, Memories, etc.)
- Observe that preview is gone/missing.

I tried manually generating a preview occ preview:generate path/to/file/filename.heic and it returns No preview generator available for file of typeimage/heic
But even this command does not generate a log entry, which is making troubleshooting a bit difficult.

Okay, this is a problem from maybe... upstream? Important output from
php -iHEIC and HEIF are missing.
I spun up a clean container using the image that my
docker composeuses, just in case it was something in my setup:docker run -it nextcloud:34.0.5-fpm-alpine shphp -ireturns this:Missing.
Compare to the Debian image:
docker run -it nextcloud:34.0.5 shPresent.
So it seems something has changed in the module. Upstream issue? I guess someone please move this to the Docker repo?

thanks for the report. As you guessed, the removal was intentional due to an issue with a preview provider. An enhancement issue about this has already been opened nextcloud/server#58393, feel free to upvote it or, if you are comfortable or willing to contribute, open a PR to address it.
