# Lowest-Node Physical Integration Notes

This document is for people who have almost no money or tools and still want a working MeshCore node.

The goal is the lowest possible barrier while keeping the radio useful.

## Core principle
The radio does not need a perfect enclosure or a perfect mast.
It needs power, a reasonable antenna, and some protection from the worst weather.

## Simple physical integration ideas
- Place the node on or beside a simple passive structure (chicken-wire frame, scrap wood, small roof, or an OpenRoot-style Node-001 unit).
- Use any scrap material for a basic weather shield (plastic bottle, small plastic box, bent metal, or wood).
- Raise the antenna even 1–2 meters if possible. Height helps more than perfection.
- Keep the antenna as clear of dense metal and thick trees as the site allows.

## Why co-locate with a passive unit
A MeshCore node gives lightweight multi-hop offline communication.
A simple passive thermal / radiative structure gives free temperature differential and sky awareness.
When they sit together, the same physical location serves both information and energy/thermal needs for the lowest node.

## Materials that cost almost nothing
- Scrap wood, bamboo, or PVC
- Chicken wire or any open mesh
- Plastic containers or bottles for weather protection
- Zip ties, wire, or tape
- Existing USB battery banks or small solar cells if available

## Definition of success
If the node can send and receive packets with other nearby nodes, you have already succeeded at the lowest-node level.

You do not need a perfect station on day one.
You need a station that exists and can talk.
