Linux Mint update failures - versions overly complex causing breakage #1095

Description

@sporteka2

Description

Two failed attempts to update Linux Mint resulting in data loss and system breakage:

  1. First update: Required hard reboot after failed process
  2. Second update: Attempt to remove failed snapshot removed approximately 500GB of disk space

The versions are overly complex and introduce breaking changes that are not user-friendly.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Attempt to update Linux Mint OS
  2. Observe update failure
  3. Potential data loss when attempting to remove failed snapshots

Expected behavior

OS updates should be reliable and not risk user data or disk space

Additional context

User has returned to Gentoo and reports no regrets. The complexity of binary OS versions vs source-based systems like Gentoo leads to these failure modes.
