I got this repository from this page: https://developers.google.com/pay/api/android/samples

It looks like it's very out of date.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open the kotlin directory in Android Studio Quali 4 2026.1.4 Patch 1.
2. Be told to use JVM 17. Click it.
3. Sync fails. I did not read the message, and I wouldn't understand what it needs anyway.
4. Fix using AI
5. Upgrade Gradle using the automatic process.

Expected behavior
It should work out of the box, given that this is a reference repository.
