Context
The site exists to get people to a first pull request. Nothing measures whether it does. We do not know which page people leave from, whether the Git basics walkthrough is finished or abandoned, or which glossary terms are searched for and not found — that last one being a directly actionable list of missing entries.
What to change
Files: A new script, a new page, and a documented approach
Requirements:
- Propose something privacy-respecting: no third-party analytics, no cookies, no fingerprinting, nothing personal
- Searches that return zero results are the highest-value signal — start there
- Be explicit about where data goes and who can read it. If that means a GitHub issue rather than a server, say so
- Whatever is collected must be visible to the people it is collected from
- Comment on this issue with the approach before building it
Acceptance criteria
How to verify locally
python3 -m http.server 8000
Then open http://localhost:8000.
Difficulty
Advanced, and as much a design question as a coding one. Please discuss on the issue first.
New here? Comment /claim on this issue and a bot will assign it to you. Then read CONTRIBUTING.md.
Stuck at any point? Comment here saying what you have tried and where it stopped working — that is not an admission of failure, it is how we find out the instructions were unclear. You can also come to a PR Debug Clinic (Oct 12 or Oct 21).
