Also, one thing to note is that the enable-v2 configuration flag/key which is deprecated could be removed from the codebase.

You're right, but there are references to the key in this repo like

etcd-wrapper/hack/local-dev/config/etcd.config.template.yaml

which I think could be removed since they're deprecated.
