The blockstor.org website, on Hugo and Docsy like cozystack.io.

  • site/: landing page, user docs (install, CSI, architecture with diagrams, resource examples, the blockstor CLI, migration from LINSTOR, compatibility) and a separate developer guide.
  • Production is GitHub Pages from main through .github/workflows/pages.yml. The custom domain is set in the repo settings; DNS records are pending with LF.
  • netlify.toml gives deploy previews on PRs. Previews and the test workflows skip changes that touch only site/** or netlify.toml.
  • docs/known-issues.md is gone, almost all of it was fixed long ago. The one open item, node interface modify --active having no effect, moved to docs/cli-parity-known-deltas.md.

Install docs work around two gaps for now: there is no Helm chart or release manifest, so they use the stand/ manifests with the images substituted, and the blockstor CLI and linstor-migrate are not published as binaries, so they use go install.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added a Blockstor website with a refreshed landing page, product overview, and developer resources.
    • Added comprehensive guides for getting started, installation, operations, troubleshooting, CLI usage, compatibility, migration, and more.
    • Added website deployment and preview support.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified CLI compatibility differences and updated references to known issues.
  • Chores

    • Updated CI workflows to skip website-only changes.

A single static page for blockstor.org, built from the README: what
blockstor is, why it is built as a Kubernetes control plane, what works
today and what does not, the release images and the documentation
links. Plain HTML and CSS with no build step, light and dark from the
system setting, and no analytics.

Pull requests get a Netlify preview of site/, the way cozystack.io
reviews its site, while production stays on GitHub Pages. The preview
is skipped when a pull request changes nothing under site/.

blockstor.org is served from GitHub Pages, as cozystack.io is. A push
to main that touches site/ publishes the directory as it is; there is
nothing to build.

A pull request or a push that only touches site/ or netlify.toml has
nothing for the unit, integration, contract, lint or e2e lanes to
test, and the e2e lanes are the expensive ones. The license check and
the release workflow are left as they are.

Give pages: write and id-token: write only to the deploy job.

The workflow-level permissions block also gives these write scopes to the build job. The build job runs only checkout and the artifact upload, and it does not need either scope. If a third-party action in build is compromised, it can mint an OIDC token or publish to Pages. Keep contents: read at the workflow level and grant the write scopes on deploy only.

The project documentation is going to live on blockstor.org, which
needs navigation, search and per-page editing that a hand-written page
does not give. The site now builds with Hugo and Docsy, the stack
cozystack.io runs, so both sites are maintained the same way.

Docsy is pulled as a Hugo module with its own go.mod under site/, which
keeps it out of the repository's Go module.

The animated figure of one ResourceDefinition reconciled into three
DRBD replicas was the one picture on the first landing page and got
lost in the move to Docsy. It is a shortcode now, drawn in light
strokes for the cover background, and still honours reduced motion.

Blockstor is meant to stand on its own, but it is developed within
Cozystack, and the landing page should say so. The section carries the
CNCF Sandbox line and logo the way cozystack.io does.

Chroma wrote its light palette inline, so the dark theme put light text
on a light block. Highlighting now emits classes, and Docsy's light and
dark chroma styles switch with the theme.

Almost every entry on it was fixed within hours of it being written,
and what remains is internal validation tracking, not something an
operator can run into.

The pages copied from docs/ were written for people working on the
code: they explained where things live in the tree and drove
everything through the upstream linstor client. The documentation
section is now organised around what an operator does: overview,
installation, CSI, resources with examples, the blockstor CLI, the
layer stack, migration from LINSTOR and the differences from LINSTOR.
The cover's Get started button points at the installation page.

The architecture page described the code's invariants. It now shows
how the components fit together, how a PVC becomes replicas on disk,
and how each satellite watches only its own node, as Mermaid diagrams
without references to the code. Mermaid is pinned so a new release
cannot change the rendering unreviewed.

Building, the test tiers, the repository layout, the internal
invariants with their code references, and the licensing rules now
have a section of their own, so the operator documentation does not
have to carry them.

Almost every entry was fixed within hours of the page being written,
and the statuses were never updated. The one entry still open, the
NetInterface --active behaviour, is a deliberate difference from
LINSTOR and now lives in the parity deltas as row 86. References to
the page point there or say it is gone; the changelog keeps its
historical mention.

113-113: 🎯 Functional Correctness

No change is needed for this import.

Docsy v0.12.0 provides assets/scss/td/_code-dark.scss, which resolves the td/code-dark import. Docsy also imports _styles_project.scss at the end of main.scss, so this Sass import position is valid. The partial applies the light and dark Chroma palettes through the configured theme selectors, and highlight.noClasses: false enables those classes. No deprecation migration is established by the current source.

The documented multi-volume snapshot limitation is correct.

The converter preserves the captured volume references, but the ZFS provider addresses snapshots through volume 0 only. Only the first volume is reachable for restore and delete, and the converter reports this limitation. No documentation change is required for this claim.

| 42 | `r d <rd> <nonexistent-node>` (idempotent resource delete) | WIRE_SHAPE | permanent | BLOCKSTOR idempotent-delete envelope. Deleting a resource placement on a node that holds none returns `SUCCESS: resource already absent: <node> on <rd>`; upstream LINSTOR returns `WARNING: Node: <rd>, Resource: <node> not found`. Both exit 0. Deliberate: a CSI `DeleteVolume` / operator retry on an already-removed placement MUST be idempotent. Same family as the snapshot-delete idempotency in row 33. Pinned by the resource-delete REST handler's already-absent path (`pkg/rest/resources.go`). |
| 40 | `n c <node> <ip> --node-type Satellite` (node-create success envelope) | WIRE_SHAPE | permanent | BLOCKSTOR envelope shape on satellite node registration. BS emits `node created: <node>` + a `SUCCESS: No active connection to satellite '<node>'` line; upstream emits `New node '<node>' registered.` (with a UUID detail) + a `WARNING: No active connection to satellite '<node>'` line whose Details explain the controller will (re-)establish the connection. Both register the node and exit 0; the operator-visible outcome (node exists, awaiting satellite handshake) is identical. The "no active connection" notice is INFO/SUCCESS-class in BS vs WARNING-class upstream, and BS does not surface the volatile node UUID inline. Envelope-shape only; no behavioural divergence. |
| 16 | `ps l` (physical-storage list — `size` field) | WIRE_SHAPE | 2026-12-31 | BS `/v1/physical-storage` omits the per-device `size` key that python-linstor's `show_physical_storage` reads unconditionally (`linstor/responses.py` `devices.size`), so `linstor ps l` raises `KeyError: 'size'` and exits 2 against BS where upstream renders the table and exits 0. `ps l` is a hardware-discovery convenience surface; linstor-csi / piraeus-operator never call it, and the device-pool creation path (`ps create-device-pool`, cli-matrix `ps-cdp-*`) is unaffected. Tracked as a missing wire field to populate on the physical-storage DTO; whitelisted until then. |
| 86 | `node interface modify <node> <nic> --active` | BEHAVIOR | permanent | blockstor has no satellite-to-controller connection to re-target: the satellite talks only to the Kubernetes API through the in-cluster Service. `NodeNetInterface` carries no `Active` field, and the REST `is_active` flag is synthesised on read as "first interface", so `--active` changes nothing. To make another interface active, reorder `spec.netInterfaces` so it comes first; a changed address reaches the node's DRBD configuration after its satellite pod restarts. Pinned by `TestSatelliteFlagsLackControllerBindAddress` and `TestNodeCRDHasNoActiveField` in `pkg/satellite/stream/redial_spec_test.go`. |

Correct row 86's citation and qualify its DRBD statement.

TestNetInterfaceModifyActiveIsPresentationOnly directly covers the REST behavior and should be cited. Reordering is not display-only because upstream_parity_bug_225_229.go uses NetInterfaces[0] for satellite bind configuration.

However, DRBD peer addresses use peerAddressWithPrefNic. That path can select PrefNic, k8s-internal, or default instead of the first interface. Reordering therefore does not always change the address in the DRBD configuration. Qualify or remove the unconditional address-propagation sentence.

Change the namespace and label to match your installation. Every replica of a volume shares one port. If one volume shows two different ports, stop and find out why.

4. **Take pool snapshots.** A recursive `zfs snapshot` of every pool gives you a rollback point that does not depend on either control plane.

Scope the ZFS-only migration checks.

zfs snapshot and zfs list do not operate on LVM-backed pools. The installation guide lists lvm and lvmthin as supported providers, while the migration guide presents the procedure for a LINSTOR cluster without a provider limitation. If LVM-backed pools are supported, document equivalent rollback and volume-inspection steps. Otherwise, state that this procedure supports ZFS pools only.

Narrow the 501 Not Implemented statement to operation-specific responses.

The remote API exposes read and management endpoints that return 200, while cross-cluster remote shipping returns 501. Do not present every listed feature as having one response code.

After `node interface modify ... --active`, satellite re-dials the controller via the new IP. Today blockstor's satellite reads the controller endpoint from a CLI flag at startup — doesn't honour runtime changes. Document the gap; test asserts the satellite re-dials on Spec change.

**Status (Outcome B — deferred):** Phase 10.6 retired the satellite→controller gRPC wire entirely; the satellite now talks only to the kube-apiserver via `ctrl.GetConfig()`. There is no `--controller-bind-address` flag and `NodeNetInterface` has no `Active` field — `IsActive` on the REST wire is synthesised as `i == 0` (pure presentation). Implementing live re-dial (Outcome A) would require resurrecting a custom controller wire that the Phase 10.6 design intentionally removed. Pinned by `pkg/satellite/stream/redial_spec_test.go` (`TestSatelliteFlagsLackControllerBindAddress`, `TestNodeCRDHasNoActiveField`) — both fail if anyone starts implementing Outcome A, forcing a positive re-dial test to replace them. Tracked as Bug 49 in `docs/known-issues.md`.

Remove the stale active-interface requirements.

This status says Outcome A is not supported. However, Line 110 still says the active marker selects the satellite's dial IP, and Line 160 still schedules re-dial implementation. Revise those requirements to describe the unsupported behavior or remove them.

Four pages the operator guide was missing: the shortest path to a
replicated PVC, every port blockstor opens and what a firewall must
allow, the day-2 procedures (health, nodes, pools, resize, moving
replicas, snapshots, control-plane backup, upgrades), and a
symptom-first troubleshooting page. Each claim was checked against
the code and the e2e recovery scripts of this release.

The site documents what ships with the API group move, so it follows
it: blockstor.org/v1alpha1, and blockstor.org/ for labels and
annotations.

The networking page now has the plain API port on loopback, the
snapshot stream on 3372 with mutual TLS from its own CA, and no
satellite metrics listener. Operations says a snapshot a restore still
reads from is kept until the restore is done, and troubleshooting
replaces the manual apply-al workaround with what the satellite now
does after a crash while Primary.

Back up the configured passphrase Secret.

blockstor-cluster-passphrase is only the default name. The documentation allows spec.passphraseSecretRef to change the Secret name, but this command always exports the default Secret. For an encrypted cluster with a custom Secret, the backup omits the passphrase and restored volumes cannot be opened. Resolve the configured Secret name before exporting it.

Update only the first network interface.

--type merge replaces the complete spec.netInterfaces array. On a multi-interface node, this command removes k8s-internal and every other configured interface while trying to change the first address. Use a JSON patch for /spec/netInterfaces/0/address, or preserve and resubmit the full existing list.

NOT LGTM. The last commit documents six unmerged PRs as current behaviour, and the site deploys from main as soon as this merges.

Business context: blockstor.org, a Hugo and Docsy site with the operator documentation, published to GitHub Pages from main.

Andrei Kvapil (@kvaps) I read the delta since 8a63103 (96ac90f, 2d9a3d0, d7b19d6) page by page and checked it against main at 5c354a0. The site builds cleanly with Hugo; the only warnings are Docsy deprecations, and no internal link or anchor is broken. pages.yml has not changed since my last approval.

Blockers

B1: d7b19d6 describes code that is not on main

The site deploys on every push to main that touches site/ (pages.yml). Merging this presents the following as current, while main and every tag up to v0.1.17 behave differently:

  • API group blockstor.org/v1alpha1 in resources.md, layer-stack.md and architecture.md, plus kubectl get nodes.blockstor.org in operations.md and troubleshooting.md. Main has blockstor.cozystack.io (api/v1alpha1/groupversion_info.go:32), so each of those commands fails with an unknown resource type. This is #221.
  • Snapshot stream on 3372 with mutual TLS (networking.md, operations.md:212). Main serves it as plain HTTP on 0.0.0.0:9100 (pkg/satellite/stream/stream.go:42, pkg/satellite/agent.go:217, hostPort: 9100 in the DaemonSet) and has no --stream-tls-* flags. This is #190 and #219.
  • "The satellite opens no metrics listener." On main the satellite never sets a metrics address, so controller-runtime v0.23.3 opens its default :8080 on the node.
  • Port 3370 "listens on 127.0.0.1 inside the pod and no other pod can reach it." Main starts it with --rest-bind-address=:3370 (stand/blockstor-apiserver-deploy.yaml:97), so any pod that can reach the pod IP gets unauthenticated read and write access to the API. This is #215.
  • operations.md:174, a snapshot kept while a restore still reads it and a 409 on delete: this is #218. On main snapshot delete does not check.
  • troubleshooting.md:87-99, "A replica crashed while Primary": on main the satellite treats ErrMetadataUnclean as no metadata and runs create-md (pkg/satellite/reconciler.go:3575-3576, then :3794), and ApplyAL has no caller. The page says the GI and dirty bitmap survive, and it drops the warning that 2d9a3d0 still had. This is #220.

The firewall section and "Ports without authentication" were correct at 2d9a3d0 for main and told operators to fence 9100 and 8080. d7b19d6 removes both warnings. Fix: take d7b19d6 out of this PR and land each part together with or after its code PR, or after the release that ships them.

B2: The quickstart does not work with any published release

quickstart.md:28 and :60 check out v<VERSION> and run go install github.com/cozystack/blockstor/cmd/blockstor@v<VERSION>. The newest tag, v0.1.17, has no cmd/blockstor (git ls-tree v0.1.17 cmd/ lists apiserver, controller, linstor-trace-recorder and satellite), because the CLI landed in #181 after that tag. Step 2 fails for every tag that exists today. Either hold the page until a release ships the CLI, or state the minimum version.

B3: There is no Helm chart

The landing page card says "Requirements, the Helm chart, registering nodes and storage pools", and docs/_index.md says "Installation covers requirements, the chart, nodes and pools". The repository has no Chart.yaml, and installation.md installs with kubectl apply of the stand/ manifests.

B4: operations.md:156 promises a guard that the --diskless form does not have

"Demoting the last replica with data, or one that is in use, is refused without --force" comes right after toggle-disk worker-3 my-volume --diskless. That flag goes straight to setDiskless (internal/cli/resource.go:83-84), and checkDemotable runs only for the bare form (resource.go:161). TestResourceToggleDisk demotes the only diskful replica with --diskless and expects exit 0, and no admission webhook is enabled. An operator who trusts the page can drop the last copy. Either remove the sentence, or add the guard to the CLI in a separate code PR.

Non-blocking

  1. operations.md:137: --force on a shrink changes only the spec. The satellite only grows volumes (pkg/satellite/reconciler.go:1505, and the contract in pkg/storage/storage.go:116), so the page should say the device will not shrink.
  2. operations.md:167: a restore places its replicas on the nodes that hold the snapshot and never goes through the autoplacer (internal/cli/snapshot.go:479). "Like any other volume" is wrong.
  3. The upgrade list in operations.md says "same order as the installation" but leaves out blockstor-apiserver-tls.yaml.
  4. quickstart.md:74 and operations.md:69: create-device-pool stamps Wipe: true (internal/cli/physical.go:166). The page should say the device gets wiped.
  5. troubleshooting.md:46: blockstor never logs "Split-Brain detected", and drbdadm status shows StandAlone, not that string; the string comes from the kernel log. troubleshooting.md:63: while a slot is StandAlone the satellite keeps running drbdadm adjust --skip-net (pkg/satellite/reconciler.go around 4830), so it leaves only the network side alone. troubleshooting.md:28: the k8s-internal interface is added in memory when the .res is rendered (pkg/satellite/controllers/resource.go) and never shows up on the Node object, so "if that entry is missing" cannot be checked with kubectl.

CI is red for reasons outside this PR. Integration failed in both attempts, each time on a different test: TestGroupI/ResourceConnectionPathCreate, then TestGroupJ/CSICreateVolumeFromEmpty. The first one also failed on #218 and the second on #219, and the last push run on main is red on TestGroupG/SnapCreateListDelete. This PR changes only site/, so those failures don't come from it.

These checked out against main: the manifest names and the sed image substitution against the tags release.yml publishes, the namespace and rollout targets, node create, physical-storage create-device-pool zfs ... --pool-name, the Secret and Issuer names, the serving certificate SANs, the tiebreaker for two replicas, the landing page CLI example, 3371 with mutual TLS, the 8081 and 9101 probes, --enable-rest-api=false and --metrics-bind-address=0 on the controller and API server, the DRBD port and minor defaults and their resolution order, and the amd64 and arm64 images.

The site deploys from main, and this commit described the API group,
the snapshot stream, the bind addresses, the restore guard and the
crash repair of PRs that have not landed. It moves to its own branch
and comes back with the release that ships them.

This reverts commit d7b19d6.

The CLI is in no release yet, there is no Helm chart, and
toggle-disk --diskless does not guard the last copy. Shrink with
--force leaves the devices alone, a restore places replicas on the
snapshot's nodes, the upgrade applies the API server certificates,
create-device-pool wipes the disk, and the troubleshooting page now
names where split brain is logged and how the satellite adjusts a
StandAlone slot.

Thanks, head d1d0370.

  • B1: d7b19d6 is reverted here and parked on docs/site-next-release. It comes back with the release that ships those PRs. The site describes main again, the 9100 and 8080 warnings included.
  • B2: quickstart and installation now say the CLI is in no release up to v0.1.17. Installation points to the YAML route for those.
  • B3: the Helm chart is gone from the landing card and the docs index.
  • B4: the page now says --diskless demotes even the last copy, so check that another replica is UpToDate first. A guard in the CLI is a code change and goes in its own PR.

The non-blocking ones are fixed as well: shrink with --force, restore placement, the TLS manifest in the upgrade list, the wipe, and the three troubleshooting lines.

Document the tiebreaker preconditions.

The controller creates a tiebreaker only when DRBD is present in the effective layer stack, auto-tiebreaker creation is enabled, at least two active diskful replicas exist with an even count, no non-witness diskless replica already breaks the tie, and an eligible spare node is available. Update the description so it does not imply that every even replica count creates a tiebreaker.

Each storage node is a cluster-scoped `Node` resource named after the Kubernetes node, and each pool on a node is a `StoragePool`. You can create them as YAML (see [Resources](../resources/)) or with the CLI.

Install the CLI from the release tag. It needs Go and reads your kubeconfig, so it talks to the cluster the same way `kubectl` does. No release up to v0.1.17 has it; with those, create the objects as YAML:

NOT LGTM. The points from my last review are fixed, but a full re-read found pages that still tell operators to do things that fail or that are unsafe on main.

Andrei Kvapil (@kvaps) I read the whole site diff at 75acbce again against main 5c354a0, page by page, as if it were a first review. Three of the new blockers were already there in my earlier passes and I missed them. The fourth is the B2 problem on the migration page. The site builds with Hugo. The only warnings are Docsy deprecations, and no internal link or anchor is broken.

Earlier points

  • B1: fixed. 8dc368b reverts d7b19d6, and the group, the stream, the bind addresses, the restore guard and the crash repair are gone. Two "in the next release" sentences predate d7b19d6 and are still there; see non-blocking 1.
  • B2: fixed on the quickstart and on installation.md. Still open on migration.md, see B7.
  • B3: fixed. Nothing on the site mentions a chart any more.
  • B4: fixed. operations.md:156 now says --diskless does not check what is left, which is what internal/cli/resource.go:83-84 does.
  • Non-blocking 1 (shrink): fixed in operations.md:137. cli.md:98 and compatibility.md:28 still say --force shrinks; see non-blocking 3.
  • Non-blocking 2 (restore placement): fixed.
  • Non-blocking 3 (upgrade order): fixed, but the renumbering broke operations.md:215, see non-blocking 1.
  • Non-blocking 4 (wipe): fixed on the quickstart and in operations.md.
  • Non-blocking 5: fixed in troubleshooting.md. networking.md:54 still has the old k8s-internal wording, see non-blocking 2.

Blockers

B5: port 3370 is reachable from every pod, not from "the pod only"

networking.md:15 puts "The pod only. Not in any Service." in the "Reachable from" column for the unauthenticated port, and compatibility.md:40 calls it "reachable only from inside the pod". The API server starts with --rest-bind-address=:3370 (stand/blockstor-apiserver-deploy.yaml:97), which binds every address of the pod, and the install manifests in stand/ ship no NetworkPolicy. Any pod that can reach the API server's pod IP gets full read and write access to the API without a certificate. Keeping it out of the Service only means it has no stable name. The page should say that and tell operators to fence the port with a NetworkPolicy, the way it already does for 9100 and 8080.

B6: a client certificate cannot come from blockstor-api-ca in another namespace

blockstor-api-ca is a namespaced Issuer in blockstor-system (stand/blockstor-apiserver-tls.yaml:45-48). cert-manager resolves an issuerRef of kind Issuer in the Certificate's own namespace, so a Certificate anywhere else never gets issued. Three places tell operators to do exactly that:

  • csi.md:47, pointing piraeus-operator's spec.apiTLS.certManager at blockstor-api-ca. The operator creates the CSI client certificate in its own namespace, so CSI ends up without one.
  • csi.md:49, "issue a second client certificate into that namespace from the same blockstor-api-ca Issuer".
  • troubleshooting.md:152, "A client in another namespace needs its own Certificate from the same Issuer".

CSI usually runs outside blockstor-system, so this hits the main install path. Either the manifests ship a ClusterIssuer (a separate code PR), or the pages describe copying the CA and client material into the client's namespace.

B7: linstor-migrate is in no release either

migration.md:74 runs go install github.com/cozystack/blockstor/cmd/linstor-migrate@v<VERSION>. cmd/linstor-migrate arrived in b873285 (#180), after v0.1.17, and git ls-tree v0.1.17 cmd/ lists only apiserver, controller, linstor-trace-recorder and satellite. This is the same problem as B2, and the quickstart's version note is not on this page.

B8: the unclean-shutdown workaround cannot work after a reboot

troubleshooting.md:96-102 now describes what main does, which is right. The workaround is to keep the satellite off the node and run drbdadm apply-al <definition> from a privileged pod that mounts /dev. Two things stop it:

  • After an unplanned reboot the DaemonSet starts the satellite with the node, before anyone can keep it off. On start cleanStateDir removes the .res of every resource the kernel does not hold (cmd/satellite/main.go:294-337), which after a reboot is all of them, and the reconciler then brings the resource up and runs create-md.
  • drbdadm apply-al <definition> needs the resource's configuration. The .res lives in the host's /var/lib/blockstor-drbd.d, mounted at /etc/drbd.d together with global_common.conf from a ConfigMap. A pod that mounts only /dev has neither.

The section is about a replica that holds the only copy. A runbook that fails there is worse than none. Either say plainly that main cannot protect that replica after an unplanned reboot, or give steps that work: keep the satellite off with a taint or a nodeSelector set before it starts, and run drbdmeta ... apply-al directly against the backing device, without a configuration file.

Non-blocking

  1. networking.md:60 and operations.md:215 still describe the next release: the stream on 3372, no metrics listener, and the API server dropping its cluster-wide Secret permissions. That code is in #190 and its siblings, which are not merged, and 8dc368b says this content went out of the PR. Also, operations.md:215 says "before step 4", but since the certificate step was added the satellites are step 5.
  2. networking.md:54 says the satellite "publishes" a k8s-internal interface and the controller prefers it. The satellite adds it in memory before rendering the .res (pkg/satellite/controllers/resource.go:1088), and only the satellite renders peer addresses. troubleshooting.md now says it right. resources.md:27 says DRBD uses the first interface, which contradicts both; the actual order is spec.satelliteEndpoint, then k8s-internal, default, and the first interface with an address (pkg/dispatcher/dispatcher.go:1034-1092).
  3. cli.md:98 says a forced shrink "cuts off whatever data lives at the end of the device", and compatibility.md:28 lists shrink as allowed with --force. Since operations.md:137 is now correct, these two pages contradict it.
  4. cli.md:141: resource-group has no drbd-options (internal/cli/command/registry.go:227-243), and volume, snapshot, physical-storage and encryption have no property verbs, so "every object" is too broad.
  5. csi.md:74: without resourceGroup, linstor-csi does not use DfltRscGrp. It creates a group named sc-<uuid> from the StorageClass parameters (pkg/volume/parameter.go in linstor-csi). csi.md:76 says resourceGroup is covered by blockstor's tests, but no e2e script sets it.
  6. compatibility.md:35: release images report the real commit as the git hash (release.yml:124-125 passes GIT_HASH, Dockerfile:41-49 stamps it). git=blockstor is only the fallback for a dev build.
  7. installation.md:119: blockstor controller version prints the CLI's own version (internal/cli/write.go:343-356) and does not contact the cluster. After go install it prints blockstor dev, so it doesn't check the installation.
  8. troubleshooting.md:144: the placer does not skip OFFLINE nodes. It skips evicted and lost nodes, nodes with AutoplaceTarget=false, and missing pools (pkg/placer/placer.go); an offline node stays a candidate until auto-evict flags it.
  9. architecture.md:81 and internals.md:14-15 say the satellite never writes a spec and the API never writes a status. The satellite writes Resource.spec.flags on toggle-disk and discovered storage into Node.spec.props, and the adjust handler clears the DRBD port through a status patch (pkg/rest/resource_adjust.go:126).
  10. Developer guide: building.md:56 sets STORPOOL for make smoke-blockstor, but tests/smoke-blockstor.sh never reads it. building.md:47 says make blockstor builds, but it only installs, and images come from make build-images. contributing.md:16 describes an allowlist, but license-check.yml runs go-licenses check --disallowed_types=forbidden,restricted, which is a denylist.
  11. operations.md:182: DRBD minors live in ResourceDefinition.spec.volumeDefinitions[].drbdMinor; a Resource has only a status mirror. The dump includes definitions, so nothing is lost. operations.md:185 uses the bare snapshots and resources, which kubectl resolves to another product's CRD if one has the same plural; the full names are safer.

CI: Integration fails on TestGroupJ/CSICreateVolumeFromEmpty, the same test as in the previous attempt, and the last push run on main (5c354a0) is red too. This PR changes only site/, a few documents and a comment in a test file, so the failure does not come from it. Some E2E lanes were still running when I looked.

The API server binds the plain HTTP port on every pod address and
the manifests ship no NetworkPolicy, so any pod that reaches an API
server pod IP gets full API access without a certificate. Say so on
the networking and compatibility pages and give a NetworkPolicy that
admits only the TLS and probe ports.

Describe how DRBD picks a peer address the way the satellite does
it, drop the leftover description of the next release's stream
port, and make the resources and compatibility pages agree.

blockstor-api-ca is a namespaced Issuer in blockstor-system, and
cert-manager never issues a Certificate elsewhere that names it, so
the pages pointed CSI and piraeus-operator at a path that fails.
Describe the two paths that work on main: mirror the CA Secret and
create an Issuer in the client's namespace, as the test installation
does for piraeus-operator, or copy an issued client Secret and renew
the copy by hand. Show the LinstorCluster fields for each.

Also say that without resourceGroup linstor-csi creates its own
sc-<uuid> group, and that no blockstor test sets resourceGroup.

After an unplanned reboot the DaemonSet starts the satellite before
anyone can act, cleanStateDir removes the .res of every resource the
kernel does not hold, and the reconciler re-creates the metadata. The
old workaround also ran drbdadm apply-al from a pod with no resource
configuration. Say plainly that the satellite cannot protect that
replica, and give steps that hold up: a node-affinity hold prepared
in advance (a taint is tolerated), and drbdmeta apply-al against the
backing device with the minor taken from the surviving .res file.

Also fix the placer note: it skips evicted, lost and
AutoplaceTarget=false nodes, not OFFLINE ones.

A forced shrink lowers the size in the definition only, as the
operations page already says; cli.md and compatibility.md still
claimed it cuts the device. List which nouns actually have property
verbs and drbd-options. Release images report their real commit
through the version endpoint. The installation check no longer uses
blockstor controller version, which prints the CLI's own version and
never contacts the cluster.

DRBD minors live in the resource definitions, not in the Resource
spec, so say where each allocation is kept. Use full CRD names in
the dump loop so kubectl cannot pick another product's resource with
the same plural. Drop the paragraph about the next release's stream
port and Secret permissions, which describe unmerged code, and the
"up to v0.1.17" qualifier on passphrase properties, which main still
honours.

The satellite writes Resource.spec.flags on toggle-disk and the
discovered storage into Node.spec.props, and the activate endpoint
clears the DRBD port through a status patch, so neither half has a
single writer; say where the exceptions are.

In the developer guide, build images with make build-images before
make blockstor, install blockstor before piraeus as install-piraeus.sh
requires, drop the STORPOOL variable smoke-blockstor never reads, and
describe the license check as the denylist it is.

Thanks for the full pass, head 8bddf13.

  • B5: networking.md and compatibility.md say 3370 binds every pod address with no authentication, and give a NetworkPolicy on app: blockstor-apiserver that lets only 3371 and 8081 in, noting it needs a CNI that enforces policies.
  • B6: csi.md has a section for clients in other namespaces with two paths that work on main: mirror the CA and create an Issuer there, the way stand/install-piraeus.sh does, with a warning that the CA key travels too; or issue the client Certificate in blockstor-system and copy the Secret, which then does not renew by itself. The piraeus fields come from the LinstorCluster CRD. troubleshooting.md points there.
  • B7: migration.md carries the same version note as the quickstart.
  • B8: the section now says plainly that main cannot protect that replica after an unplanned reboot, and why. A taint does not help, since the DaemonSet tolerates everything, so the steps add a node affinity condition ahead of time, then label the node and force-delete its pod while it is down. The repair runs drbdmeta <minor> v09 <disk> internal apply-al from a privileged pod with /dev and the old .res mounted. Encrypted volumes and external metadata are excluded.

All eleven non-blocking points are in as well. A ClusterIssuer and a NetworkPolicy in the manifests would be code PRs; I left them out of this one.
