Summary

Turn AGENTS.md into a short guide that applies to every contributor's agent, and remove the maintainer's GitHub account rules from it.

  • Removed: the rules required every GitHub operation to run as the maintainer's account and told the agent to stop otherwise. That described one maintainer's local credential setup. Because Claude Code and Codex load AGENTS.md for anyone who works in this repository, a contributor's agent would refuse to push to a fork or open a pull request. The rules now live in the maintainer's local agent configuration instead.
  • Added: a pointer to CONTRIBUTING.md, the three automated checks that CI runs and when to run each, the setup command for the Chromium script tests, a note that some changes need manual or browser validation, and a reminder to run git status so screenshots, generated pages, and references/preferences.md stay out of commits.

CONTRIBUTING.md stays the source of truth. AGENTS.md only points to it and repeats the commands an agent needs most often, so no CLAUDE.md is added.

The new commands are the same ones already documented in CONTRIBUTING.md and run by .github/workflows/check.yml. No new external URLs.

Type of change

  • Translation or README
  • Bug fix
  • Skill improvement (SKILL.md, references/, or assets/)
  • New skill
  • CI or tooling
  • Other: repository agent instructions

How I verified it

  • node scripts/check-readme-translations.mjs: passed (3 English READMEs, 9 translations, 124 relative-link targets).
  • node scripts/check-templates.mjs: passed (1 template, 2 examples).
  • git diff --check: passed.
  • Compared each command and file path in the new AGENTS.md with CONTRIBUTING.md and .github/workflows/check.yml.
  • node --test scripts/*.test.mjs was not run locally because this change touches only AGENTS.md. CI runs it on this pull request.

Checklist

  • node scripts/check-readme-translations.mjs passes (or I only changed things it does not cover)
  • If I changed ENGINE in template.html, I applied the same change to example-agent-sandbox.html, and node scripts/check-templates.mjs passes — no ENGINE changes
  • If I added a UI_TEXT key, I added it for en, ko, ja, and zh-CN, and node scripts/check-templates.mjs passes — no UI_TEXT changes
  • I did not commit references/preferences.md, generated pages, or verification screenshots
  • I added no new external URLs or shell commands, or I explained them in the summary above
  • If this is a new skill, I understand that maintainers may add the translations to my branch, and I enabled "Allow edits by maintainers" — not a new skill

Replace the maintainer's GitHub account rules with guidance that applies
to every contributor's agent: read CONTRIBUTING.md first, run the checks
that CI runs, and keep screenshots and personal files out of commits.

The account rules described one maintainer's local credential setup. In a
public repository they told every contributor's agent to stop unless it
was authenticated as the maintainer, which blocks pull requests from
forks. They now live in the maintainer's local agent configuration.

Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated repository guidance to reference contribution instructions and checks appropriate to the files being changed.
    • Clarified when to install Chromium dependencies for script tests and when additional review or browser validation is needed.
    • Added a reminder to check for generated files before committing.

AGENTS.md replaces GitHub account-use requirements with contribution guidance. It directs contributors to CONTRIBUTING.md, maps changed file types to automated checks, specifies Chromium setup for script tests, and lists additional validation and generated files not to commit.

Review details

Systems and components

  • observed — AGENTS.md (service) was modified; 1 changed file maps to changed impact.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in AGENTS.md: The file replaces instructions requiring verified codekongdev authentication for GitHub operations—and prohibiting fallback accounts—with repository contribution guidance. The new instructions link to CONTRIBUTING.md, map README/translation, template, and script changes to automated checks, specify Chromium dependency setup for script tests, call out additional validation described in the contribution guide, and identify files and generated artifacts not to commit.
