Hi,
First sorry if it is not the correct channel to talk about it (I tried to find a better one, but without success).
So I am working on a quite similar project since a few months (and I am shamelessly using AI for it), I didn't know if my project was going anywhere, but now I think it could be useful.
I was massively inspired by your project and your YouTube videos, but I don't like python, and also I wanted to do some different conceptual choices, this is why I started my project instead of contributing to this one.
The core of my project is in Rust, there is :
A daemon taking care of the database (I choose LMDB instead of SQL, for performance, because SQL was slower), and watching if some files are moved or modified, either with inotify or fanotivy (requiring more right on Linux, but more efficient), I didn't try it on Windows, but I know something similar exists.
A lot of commands in Rust, to communicate with this daemon
A GUI, in Rust for the core (with Tauri), and in javascript/html for the rest.
I tried to give the GUI an Emacs like feeling, everything can be done through the keyboard, and everything is configurable and modifiable.
I am unsure of what I should do, but I want to collaborate, maybe by building conversion tools between both projects, or maybe by doing something else. I admit I don't know how I should behave.
But TagStudio looks like a natural place for a meetup because the YouTube videos and streams are doing very well.
Consolidating the effort is hard because, as you've noticed, you're having too little motivation to use the chosen tech (the language, DB, etc.). I'm in the same boat.
What I did for my project (TagWarp) is that I've published it in several showcase threads on the relevant Discord servers (in your case those will be probably Rust-related). That's to try to get some testers. Then, when it's more production-ready, I think that it will make sense to go look for the artist communities that may be interested.
I've also put it into the showcase channel on the TagStudio Discord. I don't know how can it be useful for the TagStudio itself, maybe as an UI concepts demo. And my approach to the DB performance is that I just load it into the GPU and go from there. (also since you've mentioned, fs notify stuff is simpler on Windows and Mac, because they implement the recursive watch for you)
I've got direct interop with TagSpaces, not TagStudio, but I don't go to the TagSpaces forums/github to advertise it. And I'm not planning doing interop with TagStudio myself, it just looks like tester poaching.
Anyway, I don't have a good response on how to collaborate. But yes, the question is there. (better suited for github/discussions than github/issues, but kinda more visible here)

There are actually a lot of projects like that.
