Why

The Linux changelog was a hand-edited [Unreleased] block, while the macOS app uses towncrier fragments. Both now use towncrier, one config per project, built with --dir linux.

Change

  • linux/towncrier.toml mirrors the root config; headings link linux-v{version}. The 13 Added entries become fragments named for build(linux): release notes, JSON upgraders, arm64, hotfix, user docs #3464 and refactor(linux): finish remediation steps 40 to 45 #3413. The lead block moves to the 0.1.0 release PR, as the root's does (text at a67dcf2).
  • check-changelog.py checks both projects. A Linux release PR may also set the version files, and the PR that adds a towncrier.toml brings its changelog as is.
  • check_packaging.py reads towncrier's linked heading. A pre-release needs no section; release-linux.yml drafts its notes.
  • linux/docs/releasing.md and the Linux guides point at .claude/rules/changelog.md.

Verified

Both test suites pass, and both projects render with towncrier build --draft. Changed tests: test_a_good_tree_passes (OK line names both projects), test_a_pre_release_tag_passes_when_the_spec_packages_the_tilde_version (no rc section).
