Description

Adds .github/workflows/runner-smoke-test.yml, a manually triggered smoke test for the configured self-hosted runner. It reports runner OS, architecture, CPU counts, host memory, the detected cgroup memory limit, disk capacity, and required tool availability, and fails if a required prerequisite is missing or unusable. No issue is fixed by this change.

  • Scope: one new file only. Existing workflows are untouched, and the job stays isolated from normal pull-request CI.
  • Safety: triggered only by workflow_dispatch; contents: read permissions; no checkout of repository code; no package installs, artifact uploads, secrets, network calls, or runner modifications; untrusted pull-request code is never executed on the self-hosted runner.
  • Validation: YAML parsing passed; actionlint passed; all embedded shell blocks passed bash -n; git diff --check passed.
  • Next step: after review and merge, dispatch the workflow once manually to inspect the runner environment before attempting benchmark workloads. Actual Linux runner execution has not yet been performed.

Checklist

  • Make sure that you are listed in the AUTHORS file — not applicable: this repository has no AUTHORS file.
  • I have commented my code, particularly in hard-to-understand areas — the non-obvious logic (cgroup memory-limit fallbacks, required-tool verification) is commented inline.
  • New and existing unit tests pass locally with my changes — not applicable: workflow-only change, no code paths or unit tests affected; the validations listed above cover the added file.
  • Updated or added python bindings for changed or new classes (Tick if no updates were necessary.) — no Python classes were changed.

⚠️ Note: Once you opened a PR try to minimize the number of pushes to it as every push will trigger CI (automated builds and test) and is rather heavyweight on our infrastructure (e.g., if several pushes per day are performed).
