feat(ladder): operator action to fail an unproven fired tranche - #854
Conversation
Adds POST /api/ladder/tranches/{id}/resolve (outcome failed only; completed answers 501 until the commitment visibility adapter lands, PR5b2). It moves a fired tranche to failed with a required reason, releasing its netting.
Authorization: execute:purchases for a real user (admin API key refused) scoped to the tranche's account. Safety: the tranche then the retry-chain tail are locked in the reconciler's and Retry's order; every chain node must be on an allowlist of statuses; an execution that completed blocks it; a node with an unknown outcome (reaped) additionally needs acknowledge_unknown_outcome, a chain unchanged for LadderFiredStaleAfter, and a cloud_check naming the tranche's account and service with a checked_at after the last change. status_reason stores the full request string, so a repeat is a no-op and a different request conflicts.

CI runs integration tests with -race, which flagged the gate channel the test reassigned while goroutines read it. Each phase now gets its own channel. Refs #118 Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

PR5b of the ladder executor plan (A11): an operator can resolve a fired tranche the reconciler cannot (reaped or unproven execution, errAllAccountsFailed, safeFail, provider lag). Without it such a tranche stays fired and nets forever. This PR implements outcome
failedonly.completedanswers 501 and is deferred to PR5b2: it must pass the commitment visibility check, and that adapter lands with PR5a.POST /api/ladder/tranches/{id}/resolve, body{outcome, reason, note?, acknowledge_unknown_outcome?, cloud_check?}.requireAutoPurchaseGrant), then the account scope andexecute:purchasesconstraints are checked against the tranche's own account and provider (as the amend endpoint does). 403 comes before body validation.ResolveLadderTrancheFailedlocks the tranche then the retry-chain tail (LockLadderTrancheChainTx, the reconciler's and Retry's order). Every chain node must be in an allowlist (failed, canceled, cancelled, expired, completed, partially_completed); a live or unknown status blocks. A completed or partially_completed node blocksfailed(a purchase may exist).acknowledge_unknown_outcome, a chain unchanged forLadderFiredStaleAfter(measured from maxupdated_at, added toLadderChainNode), andcloud_check{checked_account_id (tranche account id or provider account number), checked_region, checked_service (= tranche layer type), checked_at after the last change, not in the future}.status_reasonstores the whole request string (operator:failed:proven|unverified: ..., fixed field order, quoted). A repeat of the same request returns 200 withreplayedand writes nothing; any other request on a settled tranche is 409. Reason 10-300 chars, note <= 200, control characters rejected, stored reason <= 1000. Audit: structured log with actor, credential kind, tranche, fired -> failed and the stored reason.Verification (macOS, throwaway local PG17, no Docker): config integration tests for the chain/ack/staleness/scope/replay matrix; api race test (resolve x2, reconcile x2, real
persistRetrySuccessorTxRetry x4, 25 rounds in three schedules) asserts no failed tranche has a linked successor and that both outcomes (operator fail, Retry extends) occur; handler unit tests (FIXTURE store) for the auth matrix incl. admin key, scoped execute:purchases, body validation, 501 for completed, error mapping. 14 mutants (grant dropped, scope constraints dropped, allowlist ignored, completed node allowed, ack not needed, staleness from created_at, replay ignores reason, account unchecked, future checked_at, service unchecked, completed not 501, control chars allowed; two gate mutants in #853) all fail the suite. Size is over 400 lines (about 410 non-test, 1000 total); it is one concern and the gate fix was already split out.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
