Gate review (head 361e9c0), interim findings. Synthetic key only, fake transports, no live calls. Fix verified for its stated scope: on main d0f8f08, a key split by any of U+200B/200C/200D/2060/00AD/FEFF/180E/202E/2066-2069/E0001/E0041/2028/2029/0085, NUL, ESC, DEL, CR, TAB comes out PLAIN in the tool result text and the MCP protocol bytes via the transport path ( Non-blocking residuals (both pre-existing on main, not regressions, outside #56's named classes; suggest follow-up issues): NB1. NB2. |

Gate finding F1 (BLOCKER) at 361e9c0: CI
Local evidence at 361e9c0 (git archive, GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.9): go vet ./... exit 0; go test -short ./... exit 0; go test -race -count=3 ./tools exit 0. Fail-before reproduced: the PR's tests on d0f8f08 code fail MasksKeyAfterSanitizing/{zero-width,bidi,control,newline,twice}, MasksKeyOnRealPaths/transport_{same 5}, TrimsKeyBeforeMasking, LeavesNoKeyPrefixAtCap; decode cases pass before (regression only), as claimed. Mutants (15), killed by assertion: mask-before-strip, drop cap, ReplaceAll->Replace n=1, drop TrimSpace, cap-before-mask, strip without Cf, without Cc, without Zl/Zp, cap 257, cap 255, no rune-boundary backoff, no strip inside archeraCleanString, mask lowercased key. Survivors: (a) Code verdict: the fix is correct for #56's scope (see previous comment for NB1/NB2 non-blocking residuals). Not merging until lint is green at a new head; any new commit restarts the gate. |

Gate re-review at bbfb901, finding F2 (BLOCKER). Synthetic key, no live calls.
My sweep (filler 150..262 bytes x 1/2/3/4-byte filler runes) found 1351 outputs with a readable key prefix of 6 or more characters: U+FE0F (1078) and an invalid byte 0xFF (273). Unsplit keys, and keys split only by stripped classes, are fine because they are masked before the cap. This is the same partial-prefix case Fix: run the skeleton check on the masked, uncapped text (strip, mask, skeleton-check, then cap), for example The other probes are clean at bbfb901. Every single splitter class, several classes mixed per character, and stacked splitters (VS + ZW + NUL + CGJ + invalid + bidi + filler + space) are either masked or withheld, in direct and context-wrapped form. The context wrapper keeps errors.Is, and |

Gate verdict at bbfb901: NOT MERGED, blocked on F2 (comment above: the skeleton check runs after the cap, so a split key straddling the cap leaves up to 22 of 23 characters readable). Other evidence at this SHA (git archive, GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.9): go vet ./... exit 0; go test -short ./... exit 0; go test -race -count=3 ./tools exit 0. CI is all green and mergeState is CLEAN. F1 (lint) is resolved. |

Gate re-review at fb2b6d2: NOT MERGED, blocked on F3. F2 is fixed: my cap-straddle sweep (filler 150-262 bytes x 1/2/3/4-byte runes x U+FE0F, U+E0100, U+0301, U+3164, 0xFF, U+200B, unsplit) now gives 0 outputs with a readable key prefix of 6+ characters (1351 at bbfb901). Every single-class, mixed and stacked splitter is masked or withheld, in direct and context-wrapped form, and the HTTP path is unchanged. After the refactor, under the shared heavy-run lock with go1.26.9: go vet exit 0, go test -short ./... exit 0, go test -race -count=3 ./tools exit 0. CI is green. F3 (BLOCKER, test vacuity plus a redundant check).
Requested change: (1) remove Other mutants at this SHA (26 run): mask-before-strip, cap-before-mask, drop cap, Replace n=1, drop TrimSpace, strip without Cf / Cc / Zl+Zp, cap +1 / -1, no rune backoff, The head is also 1 commit behind main (#57, scripts only, no tools/ files). I left the branch update to the author, so it can land together with the F3 commit. Any new commit restarts the gate. |

Remove spacing combining marks from the key skeleton.
If a vendor inserts U+0903 (an Mc mark) between the key’s characters, archeraStripUnsafe leaves it in the text. This check also leaves it in place, so the readable key echo reaches the returned error. Include unicode.Mc in the skeleton filter and test a split key with that mark.

Gate verdict: APPROVED at 1810d67. Independent adversarial review; synthetic key and fake transports only, no live calls.

Closes #56
This fixes a credential-reassembly path in the merged Archera tool (#55) via transport errors.
archeraErrormasked the API key and then stripped control/format characters, so a key echoed with zero-width, bidi or control characters spliced into it was not masked and the strip then reassembled the plain key in the tool error. The HTTP-error path (fixed text, vendor message dropped) and the decode-error path (pkg formats values with%q, which escapes those characters) were safe. No live calls were made; all evidence uses a synthetic key and a fake transport.Fix (gate follow-ups included): context errors (previously returned unchanged, leaking a plain key from a transport error wrapping DeadlineExceeded/Canceled) now carry sanitized text via a wrapper that keeps errors.Is/As. Text is withheld entirely (fixed message) when the key is still readable after dropping Cc/Cf/Mn/Me/Zl/Zp/Zs, variation selectors, Hangul fillers and invalid bytes, which covers splitters the strip does not remove. Lint findings fixed (ST1018 escapes, unparam on entryOf);
golangci-lint runis clean and the cap boundary at exactly 256 bytes is tested. Core: strip, then mask the trimmed key (case-sensitive substring, all occurrences), then cap at 256 bytes.archeraStripUnsafeis extracted fromarcheraCleanString, which keeps its behavior for other callers.Fail-before (old
archeraError, new tests), real output:Decode-path cases pass before and after (regression only).
Mutations, each fails a named test: mask before strip -> MasksKeyAfterSanitizing/zero-width_split; drop cap -> TestArcheraDecodeErrorsAreBoundedAndClean; Replace n=1 -> MasksKeyAfterSanitizing/twice; drop TrimSpace -> TrimsKeyBeforeMasking; cap before mask -> LeavesNoKeyPrefixAtCap.
Verification:
go test -short ./...clean,go test -race -count=3 ./toolsok, go vet and pre-commit hooks pass. golangci-lint run: no issues. The tool writes no logs or stderr (no print/log calls in the Archera files). Extra mutations killed: skip skeleton check, ignore marks, ignore invalid bytes, context error unchanged, cap<=-><. Scope: the cli equivalent is fixed in cli #2166; the platform drops non-HTTP error text. Interplay: go#286/#337/#338 stay a follow-up, this stopgap remains until the pkg pin is bumped.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
