Closes #358. Refs cli#2179 (owner chose "add a recurring field").

What

  • common.AuditRecord.RecurringMonthlyCost *float64, JSON recurring_monthly_cost, USD per month, omitted when the provider did not report it (nil is not the same claim as a known 0 for all-upfront). Copied from Recommendation.RecurringMonthlyCost by NewAuditRecord (value copied, not aliased).
  • reporter.RenderTable: new Recurring$/mo column after Est.Cost; - when unknown.
  • estimated_cost / Est.Cost are unchanged (upfront payment).
pkg only; no provider change, so no cross-module ordering issue. Consumers bump the pkg pin.

Blast radius (checked)

  • Table: 12 -> 13 columns. Anything parsing RenderTable output positionally would shift; in-repo only reporter_test.go (updated). CLI prints it (cmd/multi_service.go:331); its tests are checked in the CLI bump PR.
  • Audit JSONL: additive field only (existing readers ignore it); omitempty keeps rows without it identical. CLI writes via NewAuditRecord + WriteAuditRecord.
  • Platform (grepped the platform checkouts under ~/.claude/worktrees: 806-tenancy-platform, w3-main-integration, 710): no import of pkg/reporter, common.AuditRecord, NewAuditRecord or estimated_cost; the only mention is a comment in internal/config/types.go. MCP server consumes recommendations, not the audit/reporter types. No consumer breakage found.

Evidence

  • TestRenderTable_RecurringMonthlyCost, TestNewAuditRecord_RecurringMonthlyCost, header-count test updated to 13. Before the change: audit test does not compile (no field) and the reporter tests fail; after: pass. cd pkg && GOWORK=off go vet ./... && GOWORK=off go test -short ./... passes.
  • Real-data dry run is in the CLI PR.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Audit records now include recurring monthly costs separately from upfront estimated costs.
    • Reports display a “Recurring$/mo” column, showing monthly costs as currency or “-” when unavailable.

…ndation table

estimated_cost and the table's Est.Cost are the upfront payment, so they read
0 for no-upfront commitments. Keep them and add recurring_monthly_cost (USD
per month, omitted when unknown) to AuditRecord and a Recurring$/mo column
to RenderTable.

📝 Walkthrough

The audit record now stores an optional recurring monthly cost separately from the upfront estimated cost. The recommendation table adds a column for the recurring monthly cost.

Changes: Recurring Monthly Cost

Layer / File(s) Summary
Audit record cost field
pkg/common/types.go, pkg/common/audit.go, pkg/common/audit_test.go
AuditRecord adds an optional recurring monthly cost. NewAuditRecord copies the value. Tests cover pointer independence, JSON serialization, nil omission, and the unchanged zero estimated cost.
Recommendation table column
pkg/reporter/reporter.go, pkg/reporter/reporter_test.go
RenderTable adds a Recurring$/mo column. It formats present values as currency and shows - when the value is nil. Tests cover positive, zero, and missing values.

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to c511f

The optional recurring-cost field and table column preserve the upfront-cost value. A focused test for known-zero audit output would protect the distinction between zero and unknown; no current behavior defect is established.

Add a known-zero recurring-cost assertion.

The test covers a non-zero recurring cost and nil omission, but no common-package test covers a reported recurring cost of 0. Add a non-nil zero-pointer case to detect regressions that omit known zero values.

Independent review (claude-opus-5-5) of c511f36: APPROVE

Non-blocking findings

  1. pkg/reporter/reporter_test.go:103: assert.Contains(t, lines[3], "$0.00") is vacuous because the same row also has Est.Cost $0.00 and Est.Savings $0.00. Mutation if rec.RecurringMonthlyCost != nil && *rec.RecurringMonthlyCost != 0 (known 0 rendered as -) PASSES the whole reporter suite. The code is correct (direct probe below), but the test does not protect it. Fix: assert fields[len(fields)-5] == "$0.00" on lines[3], the same way lines[4] is checked.
  2. pkg/common/audit_test.go:239-255: no known-zero JSON case, as CodeRabbit's open nitpick says. Go keeps a non-nil pointer to 0 under omitempty (probe below), but nothing pins it. Add "recurring_monthly_cost":0 for &0.0.
  3. pkg/common/audit.go:316 copyFloatPtr: the defensive copy is consistent with the repo's no-shared-pointer rule (types.go:319-336), but the only thing that fails without it is the NotSame test written for it. Acceptable; flagging under over-engineering only.
  4. *float64 is justified: it mirrors Recommendation.RecurringMonthlyCost, and providers already distinguish a known 0 (Azure all-upfront, consumption.go:275) from unknown (GCP pricing failure, cloudsql/client.go:565). A plain float64 would merge those cases.
  5. Context: providers/aws sets RecurringMonthlyCost only for RIs (parser_ri.go:224), so AWS SP rows show - until the CLI-side fixes populate it. That is an honest unknown, not a bug in this PR.

Blast radius

  • In-repo: the only AuditRecord constructor is NewAuditRecord (others are tests). The only RenderTable caller is the test.
  • gh search code in the LeanerCloud org (default branches): RenderTable is used only by cloud-commitments-cli cmd/multi_service.go:331 (printed, not parsed). Audit consumers read JSON by key (cmd/multi_service_test.go:1933+). No positional parsers found.

Evidence (fresh clone, this SHA)

  • cd pkg && GOWORK=off go vet ./...: clean. GOWORK=off go test -short ./...: 1456 passed. gofmt clean. Providers and sanity module build standalone against their pinned pkg and also with go.work.
  • Fail-before (new tests kept, audit.go/types.go/reporter.go reverted to main): common fails to build (ar.RecurringMonthlyCost undefined). TestRenderTable_RecurringMonthlyCost FAILS: header lacks Recurring$/mo, row lacks $1968.81, expected "-" actual "$0.00".
  • Mutations: nil rendered as $0.00 fails (expected "-"). Dropping the column fails ColumnCount (13 vs 12) and the recurring test. Removing omitempty fails (recurring_monthly_cost":null). Aliasing the pointer fails NotSame. Not copying the field fails. The known-zero-as-- mutation SURVIVES (finding 1).
  • Direct probe, known 0 with break-even 7.5 mo: row $0.00 $0.00 $0.00 0.0% 7.5 mo, so the Recurring column shows $0.00, not -. JSON has "estimated_cost":0,"recurring_monthly_cost":0.
  • CI: all checks green on this SHA, including Integration Tests and CI Success.

…it JSON

The table test used Contains("$0.00") on a row whose Est.Cost and Est.Savings
are also $0.00, so printing a known 0 as - still passed. Assert the Recurring
cell itself, and add a known-zero audit JSON case.

Independent review (claude-opus-5-5) of 9e7d6d5: APPROVE

Supersedes my verdict on c511f36. The delta from c511f36 is test-only (git diff c511f361 HEAD -- ':!*_test.go' is empty). It closes both findings from the previous review:

  • pkg/reporter/reporter_test.go: asserts the Recurring$/mo cell itself per row ($1968.81, $0.00 known zero, - nil).
  • pkg/common/audit_test.go: TestNewAuditRecord_RecurringMonthlyCostKnownZero pins &0.0 serializing as "recurring_monthly_cost":0. This also covers the open CodeRabbit nitpick.

Non-blocking: Contains("\"recurring_monthly_cost\":0") would also match 0.5. The Equal(0.0, *ar.RecurringMonthlyCost) check right above it covers the value, so this is cosmetic.

Evidence (fresh clone, this SHA)

  • cd pkg && GOWORK=off go vet ./...: clean. GOWORK=off go test -count=1 -short ./...: 1457 passed in 14 packages.
  • The known-zero mutation, which survived at c511f36 (if rec.RecurringMonthlyCost != nil && *rec.RecurringMonthlyCost != 0), now FAILS: expected "$0.00" actual "-" ("a known zero recurring cost (all-upfront) renders as $0.00").
  • A new mutation dropping a known 0 in the audit copy (if p == nil || *p == 0 { return nil }) FAILS TestNewAuditRecord_RecurringMonthlyCostKnownZero (nil pointer, key absent from JSON).
  • The earlier fail-before and mutation results still apply; the non-test source is identical.
  • CI at review time: lint, pre-commit, Snyk and CodeRabbit pass. Unit Tests, Integration Tests, Security Scanning and Lint (ci_cd_sanity_tests) were still running. Confirm they are green on this SHA before merging.

Independent review (claude-opus-5-5) of 88b4701: APPROVE

Supersedes my verdict on 9e7d6d5. 88b4701 is a merge commit created by update-branch. Its parents are 9e7d6d5 (the approved head) and f794d75 (current main). It brings in only cdcdc7f (#357) and f794d75 (#360).

  • No conflict resolution: the merge tree is identical to git merge-tree --write-tree 9e7d6d5 f794d75.
  • The PR's own diff vs main has the same content as the diff I approved. Only the blob ids and the types.go hunk offset differ (+4 lines, from feat(common): add RecommendationParams.SPAccountScope (step 1 of 2) #357's SPAccountScope field).
  • At this SHA, cd pkg && GOWORK=off go vet ./... is clean and GOWORK=off go test -count=1 -short ./... has no failures. GOWORK=off go build ./... passes in providers/aws, providers/azure, providers/gcp and ci_cd_sanity_tests.
  • CI was not checked for this SHA in this pass.
