Lightweight, native Windows power automation in one portable EXE.
Keep work running, respond to real input inactivity,
and automate power or Windows themes by time and process.
Version requirement: Explorer context-menu enhancements, including multi-selection path copying and custom rules, require v2.6.0 or later.
Adapts to Windows light/dark mode and display DPI.
Native controls support keyboard navigation and preserve edits when display DPI changes.
Left-click the tray icon for quick controls, then open Settings for all persistent preferences.
See the screenshot gallery for the panel and context-menu manager in both languages and themes.
| Capability | Built for | |
|---|---|---|
| ⚡ | Stay Awake | Downloads, renders, backups, and remote sessions that must keep running; timed presets expire automatically. |
| ⏱️ | Idle Actions | Lock, sleep, hibernate, shut down, restart, or turn the display off after real keyboard and mouse inactivity. |
| 🔁 | Automatic Tasks | Create tasks directly from the panel: process-based wakefulness, work hours, nightly shutdown, low-battery hibernation, or delayed shutdown/sleep. Review and save each template before it takes effect. |
| 📂 | Explorer Context Menu | Copy the complete selection in six formats; manage custom rules with single-item, per-item, or batch execution in one window. Copy tools and rules share an IdleTrigger submenu by default. See the user guide. |
| 🌗 | Day / Night | Switch Windows themes by time or sunrise and sunset, optionally link wallpaper and cursor schemes, snooze a pending switch, and adapt to battery and fullscreen. |
| 🔄 | Self-Update | Optional check whenever the control panel is shown, plus on-demand checks from the tray menu and Settings that open the update prompt directly; one confirm downloads, SHA-256-verifies, installs, and restarts for you, with a link to the release notes. |
Small by design: IdleTrigger is a portable native Win32 app for Windows 10 / Windows Server 2016 or later. It needs no installer, service, WebView, simulated input, or extra runtime. Settings stay in a readable TOML file beside the EXE.
System requirements: Windows 10 1607 / Server 2016 or later (x64 or x86). 1607 is the practical floor because per-monitor DPI APIs require it; the theme title-bar tint uses the modern DWM attribute on 20H1+ and falls back to the legacy one on 1809–1909.
- Download x64 for most PCs, or x86 for 32-bit Windows.
- Put the EXE in a writable folder you intend to keep, then run it.
- Left-click the IdleTrigger tray icon and choose your settings.

Use pwsh -NoProfile -File build/build.ps1 for local builds and run dist/IdleTrigger-x64.exe; add -Architecture all for both architectures. target/ is the Cargo cache, not the normal run directory.
IdleTrigger uses the windows-rs, toml_edit, and serde crates; the tray icon and its native menu are implemented directly with Shell_NotifyIconW and TrackPopupMenu. The Go implementation's tray code was adapted from getlantern/systray v1.2.2 (Apache-2.0 notice preserved in the git history). Stay Awake was inspired by NoSleep. The Windows 11 theme-repair behavior is an independent implementation informed by Auto Dark Mode's DWM refresh strategy.
