python-dotenv installation without cli masks python-dotenv cli

I have a user-directory installation of python-dotenv[cli], and then I have a conda environment installation of python-dotenv. With the conda environment active, I cannot use dotenv command, because it errors with It seems python-dotenv is not installed with cli option.

It would be better to not install the command file at all in python-dotenv installation.

It might be that the CLI entry point should only be installed when python-dotenv[cli] is explicitly installed. That way a normal python-dotenv install wouldn't add dotenv to PATH and cause conflicts with other environments.

Make sure when you activate your conda enviroment, the python3, python, pip, and pip3 commands resolve to your conda enviroment. l

The issue is that the dotenv executable from your user-level python-dotenv[cli] install is being picked up instead of one associated with your conda environment.

Could you check what these return with the conda environment activated?

which python
which pip
which dotenv

If dotenv points outside the conda environment, that's the conflict I'm referring to.

The issue is the reverse: dotenv executable from the conda environment is being picked up. All of these point to the environment
