Sphinx PDF missing contents

Issue Description

I was able to generate a PDF file via

uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate
sphinx-build -M latexpdf source build

, but unfortunately the contents isn't included (the page under Contents heading is just blank). Could someone help fix this?

What's the motivation here? Also, our supported automation is wrapped with nox. Running arbitrary commands wouldn't be considered supported.

Nothing critical, just prefer PDF docs as they can be annotated, so I thought someone might be able to understand why this is happening.

This probably means that conf.py is lacking something. You could try comparing it to some other Sphinx project that does what you want.. One other possible cause might be switching to the Furo theme that builds ToC differently, AFAIR.
