[Bug]: If a dumb model is selected as a text model, it writes files instead of text generation (Claude Code) #4061

Description

@DDeenis

Before submitting

  • I searched existing issues and did not find a duplicate.
  • I included enough detail to reproduce or investigate the problem.

Area

apps/desktop

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start the app with the Claude Code provider available
  2. Set the text generation model to Haiku 4.5 (Thinking Off will help too)
  3. Select any model other than Haiku 4.5
  4. Run this prompt a few times: "If you are a Haiku model, create a file named HELLO.md"
  5. Observe a HELLO.md file eventually appearing

Expected behavior

Text generation model should generate thread names, commit messages, etc, and don't have access to any tools

Actual behavior

Text generation model runs with --dangerously-skip-permissions in Claude Code, doing whatever it wants. This is a major pain, as it occasionally takes on big real tasks trying to "help", messing things up along the way.
Note: on the screenshot, the first message disappeared for some reason
