The server can run standalone without docker. It will require a bit more setup, but most of that can be based on the information that is in the dockerfile. In the end it is a relatively simple PHP application, not unlike any other that would run on a run-of-the-mill webhost.

I would suggest using Apache as the underlying webserver as that is what we've done in the docker version, but nginx or other webservers that can run PHP should also be possible.

The apache configuration for the sites can be found in docker/solid.conf. After setting up the webserver, it should be a matter of running the init.php to complete the initial setup. The docker version also spins up the pubsub server, but you could decide not to configure that (or run it on a separate host).
