[request] React-native 0.81 compatibility

Summary

Building an expo module that I want to test on macOS, and I am using rn 0.81 currently. It would be great to be able to test on macOS without downgrading my react-native version

Motivation

To bring parity with expo and build better Multiplatform apps and libraries :)

This may actually be a broader request for expo compatibility, I don't have react-native CLI installed as part of my project so now the macOS Pod install is failing.

We won't have React Native macOS 0.80 or 0.81 for a while, so if you're trying to build with Expo, I think you're better aligned with SDK 53 rather than 54 for the time being. The next couple of macOS releases need a bunch of new architecture love before we can release them.

I see the 0.81-merge PR. What about 0.82 - more specifically Hermes V1 support? Do you see any large blockers? Is someone in the team actively working on this, or would you accept contributions?

We're always happy to accept contributions. We're working on 0.81, and will probably skip to 0.83 afterwards. I think we might be stuck on 0.81 for a bit as 0.82+ has Fabric as the only architecture, and we haven't internally moved to the new architecture. I'm not sure I'm comfortable shipping versions of RNM with the new architecture only if it's not what we are using and testing internally.

I don't expect blockers for Hermes V1, though you probably have to wait till we sync to the upstream release of React Native that enables it.
