Make the meeting time obvious and consistent for someone new to the wiki #193

Description

@ale210

Overview

We need a new person landing on the wiki to find out when we meet and how to get invited,
without hunting. The information is technically present but it is split across two pages that
contradict each other and a third copy in an issue template that contradicts both, so a
newcomer cannot tell which is true.

Action Items

1. Establish what is actually true. The three existing statements do not agree, so this
cannot be resolved by editing text alone — ask the leads and confirm:

  • Is the meeting 6:00pm with no stated end, or 6-8pm?
  • Which Wednesdays have no meeting? Home says "except during planning weeks, which happen
the first (full) week of each month". The devops-security pre-work template says "no
meetings on the 1st Wednesday of every month". These are different weeks whenever the
month does not begin on a Sunday.
  • To get on the invite, does someone email a CoP Lead on Slack (what Home says) or post in
#ops (what CoP Meetings says)? If both work, say so explicitly.

2. Fix the wiki.

  • Update CoP Meetings with the
confirmed answer. It is currently two sentences and omits the no-meeting weeks entirely,
which is the single most confusing thing about our schedule.
  • Make Home and CoP Meetings agree. Prefer stating the detail once on CoP Meetings and
linking to it from Home, so the two cannot drift apart again.
  • Make sure the meeting information is reachable from Home above the fold — a newcomer
should not have to scroll or guess which page holds it.

3. Fix the third copy.

  • The devops-security pre-work template repeats the schedule inline. Either correct it to
match, or replace it with a link to the wiki page. Say in a comment here which you chose
    and why.
  • After the wiki edits are pushed, open the wiki as a logged-out user and confirm the
meeting time and the joining instructions are both findable from the landing page.

Resources/Instructions

  • Home — "The DevOps Community of Practice (CoP)
meets every Wednesday at 6:00pm PT except during planning weeks..." and the "How to
    participate" section
  • CoP Meetings — currently two sentences
  • pre-work-template-devops-security.md — the third copy
  • The wiki is a separate git repo and other people edit it through the web UI. git pull
immediately before you start and again before you push.
