You're right—podAnnotations is not implemented in the plugin-barman-cloud Deployment template, so setting it in values.yaml or documentation has no effect on the deployed pods. There are no open issues or PRs tracking this gap, and this is similar to the situation with imagePullSecrets, which is also present in values.yaml but not wired up in the template. If you need to add pod annotations (for example, to disable Istio injection), the only current workaround is to manually add them in your cluster or backup configuration using CloudNativePG's extensible annotation system—there's no built-in Helm chart support for this yet. Keep an eye on release notes for future updates or fixes to this limitation.
