Description

@tdHiru

What package is missing from Amazon Linux 2023? Please describe and include package name.
fish (Friendly Interactive Shell) - A smart and user-friendly command-line shell for macOS and Linux.

Is this an update to existing package or new package request?
New package request

Is this package available in Amazon Linux 2? If it is available via external sources such as EPEL, please specify.
Yes, it is available in Amazon Linux 2 via the EPEL repository (epel-release). However, since AL2023 does not support EPEL, there is currently no straightforward way to install it via the package manager.

Any additional information you'd like to include. (use-cases, etc)

  • Use-case: Some developers and DevOps engineers rely on fish as their primary interactive shell for development and server administration due to its powerful out-of-the-box features (autosuggestions, web-based configuration, and syntax highlighting).
  • Impact: The absence of fish in AL2023 creates friction when migrating development environments and interactive administrative workflows from AL2/CentOS/Ubuntu to AL2023. Having it in the official repositories would improve the developer experience.
