Brightness control non-functional in Hybrid/Optimus mode — HP OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-am0015ns (Intel Arrow Lake-P + RTX 5060 Max-Q)

Summary

On an HP OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-am0015ns with Intel Arrow Lake-P iGPU and NVIDIA RTX 5060 Max-Q dGPU, panel backlight cannot be adjusted from Linux in Hybrid/Optimus mode. Brightness keys, GUI sliders, and direct sysfs writes all have no visible effect on the panel.

This appears to be related to bug #221530 on kernel bugzilla (HP OMEN MAX 16-ah0xxx, Arrow Lake + RTX 5080) and github.com//issues/1087.

Questions for NVIDIA

  1. Is there an alternative WMI GUID or EC path for brightness control on HP OMEN 16-am0015ns (board HP 8D2F) that nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight should support?
  2. Should the NVIDIA proprietary driver handle brightness via the _BCM method under PEGB/PEGE/DEDP in the DSDT, given that this method writes to the Intel IGD OpRegion?
  3. Can a DMI quirk be added for this hardware to route brightness control correctly?

I am happy to test patches and provide additional logs (full dmesg, acpidump output, disassembled DSDT) on request.
